iPhone 3G/3GS repairs
Options
Hi
I have two iPhones:
iPhone 3G 8GB unlocked - this was Mom's, she passed it onto me. I got it unlocked and use a Tesco PAYG sim; eventually I'd like to get onto a Three or Giff Gaff sim only contract. I've had the home/middle button replaced once and it doesn't like the cold so sometimes I have to warm it up before I can use it properly. I dropped it recently and the button on the top right for locking is a bit aloof now and doesn't always respond. Also the charger slips to the left (does charge OK though). And it has a crack in the back casing which every one I've seen does. And I'm getting sick to death of not being able to get new apps because they all require ios5 or higher. Apart from that it's grand.
iPhone 3GS 32GB O2 - this was my sisters. I don't know what happened to it but now the sim casing sticks out about 1mm (there is a section of casing missing there which may have something to do with it) and the phone won't recognise a sim. Apart from that as far as I know it works fine - home button good, top right button good, charger fits nicely etc.
I am not in a position to upgrade to a new phone. Are either of these worth me repairing myself or shall I flog the 3GS on Ebay and live with the 3G? It cost £40 to get the 3G unlocked, plus another £40 to get the home button replaced so I have vowed that all repairs from now on would be DIY jobbies.

Hey - don't have any advice about fixing etc but I was looking at different trade in prices today - there's a phone recycling thing on money supermarket which is giving good prices.

These are both old phones and are becoming obsolete, as you are finding out.
Personally I would sell them both and chip in the extra bit to get a used 16gb iphone4, they'r not that expensive these days.....0 -
Yep - the lack of supported apps is rapidly diminishing the value, so sell and replace ASAP !0
