Npower Hometeam Scam
I tried to take one of these 'fix your central heating' with Npower. Icancelled within 14 days because of what happened. They have now told a debt collection agency to collect money for a contract they were incompetent to provide.
My boiler was fixed last January. In july I had it serviced and was toldabout Heating care. Last August I took out the policy with Npower Homeservebecause I was leaving my disabled mother home alone.
They messed me around with the initial inspection date and came to the houseon Day 14 of my contract. The boiler had been working fine for several monthsuntil halfway through the service. The boiler started to make whirling noisesand would not stay on with the central heating but the hot water was fine. Theengineer explained to me the water pump has had its days and has just gone. They cannot provide me with full cover until the problem is fixed.
An Npower inspector also arrived. Both said as business is slow and as I ama new customer they can knock 10% off fixing the boiler. He quoted me £650 withlabour and told me I was free to look elsewhere as he had the coffee andbiscuits I gave him. I was shocked, I said I will get other quotes.
Later that day the hot water also packed up. They would not answer theirphones and my sister was visiting with her baby. I called a local plumber andasked him for a quote for the water pump and gave him the part number. Helooked at me puzzled and said I can hear the problem from your front door. Itis not the water pump at the bottom of the boiler but the air pump that wasdislodged at the top. He was right, he had a good inspection and for my pieceof mind he replaced the air pump £20 +£70 call out charge.
I phoned Npower, complained and demanded my contract is cancelled for:
1. Its 14 days
2. Cowboy engineer who tried to rip me off and did not service the boiler
3. I wanted remedial costs returned
I sent several emails, including to Watchdog, Gas Safe register….
A couple of weeks later I had Npower demanding I pay them £65 for theservice. They reduced this to £35 but still demanded payment and they were adamantthey did nothing wrong and the water pump was still faulty –but gave your arewrong to say your boiler is working response. I was furious, I complained tothem and the head office. They did not really respond. I chased them up and spoke with someone and told her two other companies including British Gas feel my water pump works and your engineers are NPOWER COWBOYS. She said she wants me to provide copies of all paperwork and she would consider a third-party engineer (voice felt she was deceitful). Nothing happened, instead:
I contacted my bank because of the direct debit guarantee and services notprovided. The bank refunded monies taken by Npower Homeserve.
In the mean-time I took out a similar contract with British Gas, on theirinitial inspection I asked the engineer several times if there was anythingwrong with the water pump. He said no. He also used several digital meters and openedup the boiler and vacuumed inside which the Npower Cowboy did not.
Npower Homeserve refuse to pay remedial costs and have sent not only demandnotices for £35 but have now sold it to a debt collection company UK SearchLimited (01246 570 500 or reply to enquire@uksearchlimited.com)I have told them the story and they are surprised but have asked me to providedocumentation including my phone bills by email and telephone but will notwrite to me.

Hi king312
I read your post and am sorry to hear you've had such a difficult time. I really hope it's something you're able to resolve.
Your post mentions HomeServe in some parts, but NPower HomeTeam in others. I'm 99% sure your situation is with NPower, but I just want to double check in case there's anything that is actually related to HomeServe that we could be helping with.
If you do need us, just let me know.
Regards,
Amy

You're definately not the only one.
I switched from British Gas ( who I had been with for 4 years ) after they accidentally cancelled my contract. The last inspection was in February.
Just had my initial inspection with Npower. The engineer found several rather pedantic problems, none of which made the boiler unsafe but I'm being held to ransom for the tune of £300 in order to continue with the contract. None of the 4 BG engineers i've had over the years have identified these as a problem. All have been there since the boiler was installed 4 years ago.
Felt like I was dealing with Kwik Fit it was that bad.
I've told them what to do with their contract and re-instated my BG cover which luckily is a continuation of the old.
Never have I felt so much that a company have been trying to scam me by conjuring up b***s**t in order to extort money so the contract can go ahead.
I should have learnt my lesson several years when Npower screwed up my billing and tried to bill me for over 12 months for a property I didn't even live at any longer.
Never again.0
