If you know the model of Renault you want you may wish to run a quote through drivethedeal or similar and see what price they are normally discounted down to.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Thanks again for feedback.
The list price is c. £14k. I can get new factory build through broker for £12.5k and pre-reg coming in c. £11-11.5k.
Think I'll remind the dealer about the court case !!0 -

Watch out for preferential finance deals that are only available on new cars, and also take into account the plate / year change which will have an impact on a pre-reg's value compared to a brand new one.0 -
This has been around for years and, unusually, the practice is the Garage/Agent trying to horse the Manufacturer and not the other way round. They get huge fleet discount and sell on immediately, the manufacturer gets the discounted price instead of what they would have got for a straight retail sale.
I'd warrant that most deals done through brokers were through this backdoor route and while it's still going on, the Manufacturers don't take kindly to their network being involved.0 -
Hi
I realise it's a no-no as if I go ahead with deal, won't be able to insure the car because not registered owner & keeper.
You don't have to be the registered owner & keeper to get insurance. Different insurance cos have different policies regarding this, although it might limit the choice somewhat.0 -
The reason the dealer has to retain the V5 is probably due to restrictions by the manufacturer. I wouldnt say that it is dodgy, they just have to abide by the rules that the manufacturer stipulates, its pretty common place in the motor industry. Hope that helps0

I'd say it's the definition of dodgy; the reason the V5 isn't given straight away is to abuse a contract with the manufacturer saving them money*, and means you've got a 3 month wait before you have paperwork showing ownership of the car.
*In which case there must be a much bigger saving they could pass on to you.0 -
