Social Care service should serve the local community in the wider sense, it's normally founded by the local council. If you take people out of their community they become isolated and it's definitely not good practice.Think you are missing the point. I was suggesting that the staff should be recruited on a basis that suits the the needs of the clients, not the local commiunity. The two can be completely different.0 -

Many councils "farm out" their care responsibilities to other authorities areas where the fees are lower. May not be good practice but it is the case. This is0 -
The vast majority of social care services in the whole sector are in the same borough or neighbouring areas. Many councils "farm out" their care responsibilities to other authorities areas where the fees are lower. May not be good practice but it is the case. This is
You are using an exception to counteract a valid argument, being rude doesn't make it any stronger.
Anyway I don't want to high jack this thread and go off on a tangent.0 -

Where is this job.
My partner is a transgender and since coming out has found it very difficult to find a job.
She lost the job she was in - was pushed so much in the end she quit, as they made life so difficult for her.
SInce then she has had about 4 interviews. Been unemployed for last two years. Doesn't get benefit - they say not paid enough NI in. Can't get tax credit as I earn too much - I earn about £7.50 per hour, over a 39 hour week.
What interviews she has had - they say that how would she use bathroom - duh. THat when they told them about what she was they made the excuse she lived too far away.
We manage each month - just. But we don't have a life - we don't go out to eat, go to the cinema - a fun night out is going to the supermarket and seeing what whoppsies we can find.
She doesn't get replies from jobs she applies for - whats wrong with a thanks but no thanks.
So if any one is looking for an unskilled, transgender - give me a shout
Thank you.0 -
Are there any bilingual, Sign language, ethnic minority, previously homeless alcoholics out there? Preferably transgender and without any form of religion? Because if there are then feel free to apply for the job I have just sent an application form in to as they state that they favour the above groups and actively seek to recruit them. They also aren't asking for any qualifications or experience and offer 40 days paid holiday a year.
Some days I don't know why I got my education and training, and spent years gaining experience when all along I could have sat with a nice bottle of voddy on a park bench, practising my signing skills at random passers by!
Wish me luck
Surely the term "ethnic minority" depends on where you live?? I lived in an area of Oxford where as a white English citizen I was certainly an ethnic minority!!!
I don't think I'll EVER understand how any form of discrimination can be positive.
The word "Positive discrimination" is such a good oxymoron!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
"Positive action" is legal. "Positive discrimination" is generally not.0

Why can't we go back to the days where anyone was welcome to apply for a job, and then the best candidate got the position?
Rather than all this "we don't discriminate" / "actively favouring certain groups" kind of rubbish.0 -
they still can discriminate but legallysharpy2010 wrote: »Why can't we go back to the days where anyone was welcome to apply for a job, and then the best candidate got the position?

Discrimination, whether we like it or not, goes on and will go on, and there is nothing we can do to stop it.
Bringing in new rules to combat it usually harms the group it was intended to help. An example of this is the rule that says you can't ask a woman if she plans to have a family. The way this doesn't help women, is that you just decide not to employ any.
