Speeding Query

But you cant stop in as short a distance as if you were doing 30.
Or even if you were doing 12mph.0 -
I wasn't saying it was ok to do 42 but that speed does not mean that not paying attention.
Some people may not be paying attention which causes them to speed. Others may know they are speeding.
I don't always stick to the limit but I would like to think that it matches the conditions. I often go slightly slower through a village on the way to work as from past experience it is a good idea. It has no footpath, there are often horses, walkers etc.
I use the speed limit as a guide with my judgement. I know that the speed limit is not really a guide and there are consequences.
I am not an advocate of speeding but on the other hand I don't think that people should be strung up if they do.0 -
In 30 and 40 zones i am dont exceed the limit. On the motorway and dual carriageways i may.
My pet hate... And its usually the older drivers.. A road with national speed limit signs.. So 60 mph. 39.5mph. Until the get to any slight deviation from a pure straight stretch, Then its 20mph.
Get to a village 30mph. Parked cars and speed bumps or kids crossing and playing etc. No matter its 39.5mph..
This is when i want to arm the missiles. You can go faster but choose not to but where you should not you do.
WHY oh... WHY....
Answers on a postcard to.. please Mr car manufacturer can you fit missiles...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

In fairness, they aren't. They're fined £60 and given three points.0 -

You have two types of driver..... The first does the speed limit on every road, the second isn't paying attention and just does 42 everywhere. The former are often demonised by the later.
Who says he did 60 in the next NSP.... more like 70.
As for two types of drivers... what rubbish!0 -
I am tail gated and overtaken mercilessly for keeping to the limit, even 35 isn't enough for (well lets face it and be honest here ) - everyone.
It might be worth checking your speedo against a satnav if you feel you suffer from this more than the average person. Speedos can legally overread by 10% + 6.25mph which is to say an indicated 30mph may actually be only 22mph. Some cars start to overread by more than that legal limit as they age too!
This doesn't excuse the tailgating, tailgating is inexcusable, but may explain why it happens to you so frequently.0 -

a fair statement and all drivers should take note.0 -
Hello, Hope someone can direct us ..anyway. My husband has just had a £60 fine & 3 points through the post today. they said he was doing 36 in a 30 mile zone...BUT..he was behind 3 or 4 cars, approaching a zebra, just after the zebra, he turned to go left. The police van was in clear view, but about 150 meters from him, before he turned, oncoming traffic was flashing everyone, there are no cameras on this stretch of road, no one stopped him (not sure how relevent that is mind) So how could he have been doing 36 while slowing to approach a zebra and turn left? I have looked online and all i am seeing is you have to take it to court and contest. what are the chances he will win? where is the evidence? anyone got any advice? and he has never had a speeding ticket in the 25 years, always been a great driver, never pulled for anything so he is a bit gutted. thanks!0

You could ring them up and ask if you can go in and see the video. Some of them let you do that. May help if you say it's so you can help identify the driver.0

there isn't enough enforcement!
There should be a lot more.
The levels of enforcement [especially unmarked, or covert] need to be vastly increased to match the sheer numbers of users on the roads.
If we drivers & riders cannot exercise self-discipline.... especially when we fail to consider others..[ie those that live there]..then we must have that discipline forced upon us.
Trouble is, we all have to pay for that increased presence...and we don't want to pay for it.
I find the sort of statements made, such as ''have you never broke the speed limit before?''...to be totally missing the point.
I got a speeding ticket.......back in the early 1980's.....so what?
Does that mean I should condone speeding today?
Just because I received endorsements & fines 40 years ago, that I should find equivalent behaviour today, acceptable?
The hypocrisy of this world comes from the lorry driver who drove his bulk artic tipper at 50mph past my front door at tea-time last night [30mph limit, urban, middle of a village].... deemed by him acceptable because 'it was a Friday, and he wanted to get home'.....yet he and his ilk often complain bitterly about cars and bikes streaking along their residential streets at 40 mph..and 'why isn't something done about it?'
If..as drivers, you 'don't like it done to you'.....set an example, and don't do it to others? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
