Usually the money arrives a day after the premium fund is awarded, so I would guess it is in today?

Well done Listerbelle, I got a bit more than that but was a nice surprise as didn't know I got any E ratings last month :) That is from the monthly premium fund that is shared among selected reviews that received an E rating the previous month from other members of Ciao.

dooyoo's Writing Tips: #2 The Product
    17/10/2013 - (12:57 PM)

Okay, folks! It’s time for round two of our tips to help you make your reviews the most useful for visitors to the site. Many of you already have things well under control, but it never hurts to have refresher...

Consumers come to dooyoo for unbiased opinions of products and if they’re here researching opinions, chances are they’ve read what the manufacturer has to say about the product, and now they’re interested in hearing other consumers’ feedback to see if it really lives up to their claims.

This isn’t a hard and fast rule we’re laying down here, but if you’re going to explain what the product does, attempt to put it in your own words – it shouldn’t be quoted from the packaging or website.

While we’re on the subject of packaging: unless the packaging is extra-special or particularly relevant, consumers don’t really need to know - at least not in a highly detailed way. Too much can detract from the meat of the review (your experience and opinion) which is what they really want to get their teeth into.

It should also be noted that the 150 words required for a Premium Review needs to be in addition to any descriptions of the packaging.

In a nutshell: The best consumer reviews not only describe the product; they discuss your experience using it.

    Happy reviewing!

I quite agree with that. I hate reading reviews where I'm subjected to a lengthy description of the box the product came in!

  • Hurray! That was one of my pet hates on Dooyoo - the kind of review that went, 'this shampoo comes in a white plastic bottle with a flip-top lid and a green label, and on the label we are told that this is shampoo and that it is made by Boots and that it should be applied to damp hair' etc etc etc!

I think it would be fair to say that it is a plastic flip-top bottle, maybe even mention that there is a label rather than printed packaging, which I wouldn't really do myself anymore, maybe once upon a time, but that is what, 15 words? I would mention the hair type if it was shampoo, and state how well this worked on said hair type, as that is important but I can think of one VERY prolific reviewer who drivels on for sometimes two paragraphs, every review, plus then another paragraph of the ingredients that have been copied & pasted from the supermarkets website.

I know that in the past this has put her under the 150 word limit, as she has been banned for this before, and since reinstated.

Amazing what padding people get away with. I used to try and add that sort of information, as people would mark me down without it, then I started realising I don't care what members think of my reviews as long as they are useful to consumers and I try and cover the personal opinion to the best of my ability.

  • Agreed - I would mention things like the bottle type if it's relevant (eg it always falls over in the shower!), but when I see that kind of writing that goes, 'we are told that this is shampoo and that it is for washing hair and there is a label with ingredients and the ingredients are.....' my finger just refuses to go anywhere further than 'useful', and that's if I'm feeling generous :)
  • I agree with the announcement. I won't be posting short reviews though because I know they will be rated lowly even if I include lots of opinion, like I said before most people rate based on length rather than content in my opinion.

Although by no means all of them, I find quite a few long reviews very tedious and full of rubbish - have to confess in the past I've also been guilty of publishing meaningless tomes - I try to keep my reviews shorter now though.

What annoys me more than anything on these epic reviews on something like a hair grip, is how the author will use about 1,000 words explaining how you slide the grip in your hair.

I find it quite difficult to get the balance right. I've just done a 600 point review and only wrote 580 words which I was afraid might be seen to be on the short side. However there wasn't really anything more I could say about a towel warmer that wouldn't have been padding.

So far the tips have been quite useful. I just hope everybody takes them on board!

Struggling with Dooyoo right now, only managing 100DM reviews would love a few 600 or 300 but so far I've not found anything I've used in that category.

Im now over half way towards my £50 cash but Im wondering if I should cash out at £20AGC because Ive been afew things on there I want as gifts BUT I still am doing SB which would pay for it in time for xmas....hmmmmm what to do.....
