Volunteering work (job portal purpose) & the work program at the same time: possible?

Hi all,

I will start a volunteering work next week but despite of that my adviser that I will meet tomorrow want to put me on work program (i do not know exactly what it is but it sounds to not really fit my profile...and not really useful/efficient). Also, do I have the right to refuse the work program since I will start a volunteering work from next week?

Thanks in advance for your help,

MoonDragon

You can refuse the work programme. They'll refuse your benefits.

Volunteering won't get you out of it either, so you'll either have to give up the volunteering or do it outside of your work programme hours.

    notanewuser is correct.

I take it you are claiming JSA?
The conditions of claiming benefit and doing volunteer work is that the volunteer work doesn't hinder your ability to get a job or take any training courses enforced by the JC.

You'll have to do the volunteer job outside the course hours.

Priority to the work program since my main purpose is to find a job quickly.

However, I would like to do this volunteering work that requires full time : this is why I am asking myself if JobCentre could not consider it as a job search that could lead to a job.

Working for three months without payment will not be a problem if that could lead to opportunities and the role fit with my profile.

You said 2 days a week in another post.

No. If you aren't available for work programme or paid work for 3 months then they won't treat it as job search. They will treat it as a job and end your benefits.

No charity will pay for something they can get from volunteers for free. There won't be a job after 3 months.

Originally, I had applied for one day per week (expecting that they will offer a part time job...): at the interview, they were asking for 5 days per week, and I then offer them two days par week. However, when we have started a week ago they started saying that we agreed for 5 days and tried to forced me...The volunteering work has then stopped. Presently, the human resource of the same come company is willing to assign me to another department since the previous was really dis-respectful....but still a volunteering work (while the job involved request high skills in IT).
I think it was to dismiss this 'new offer' and this is what I have done.

The short answer is 'no'. Your jobseeker's agreement should stipulate your full availability for work is maintained during the length of your claim.

What I will advise is that you go to the employer you are going to volunteer for and ask them if they will talk to the jobcentre about joining their employability schemes and/or that, if they have potential paid positions, that they reconsider your position as a work trial.
Voluntary work isn't out of the question and I believe the JCP have the final say over the WP whether or not you can do it. But you have to make sure it is as close to a portal to work as you can make it.
  • Perhaps ask the jobcentre if they can refer you for some help with your written English. Improving your standard of writing would help you greatly if you are wanting a decent job.

No OP the Work Programme is NOT optional no matter who you are or what you are doing!

Written English for IT engineering job? I have previously work in UK with 'my english'...issue occurs regarding my 'written English' only when people tried to undermine my job or reduce the salary (after a year at the same position...when we are closed to bonus date....).
