Only receiving 26 of my Freeview Channels

My aerial is pointing to the Bilsdale transmitter that only picks up 26 of my channels, can I get someone to turn my aerial in the direction of not sure of the spelling but you will know what I mean Emlymoor which would pick up all 40 odd channels? I am in West Yorkshire but get North East news etc. Any advice greatly appreciated. As an oap what could the cost of this be not wanting to get ripped off.

Where in West Yorkshire ? Usually failure to get all the channels means you need work to improve the signal you recieve.
With the old analogue signal the aerial was specific to the region as the channels were spaced in a relatively narrow band ( 23-35 ). With the introduction of digital the channels cover more bandwidth so to get all the channels you would need a ' wideband ' aerial .
Have you had your aerial updated in recent years.
The digital signal is weak in comparison to the previous analogue signal......some areas have real problems getting good reception.
Have you ever had good digital reception ?
Was your analogue signal very good ?
It depends on the distance from the transmitter and whether you have ' line of sight ' , can you actually see either transmitter mast in the distance ?0 -
As above, if switching from a local relay to a main transmitter, you'll need a different aerial (different polarisation). Horizontal for relays and repeaters, vertical for main.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I live in Bradford. The analogue signal was very bad like watching a picture through a snowstorm. Couldn't pick up Freeview at all until September last year and now have a good picture on the channels I am getting. I have only lived here 5yrs and it looks an old aerial, certain don't want to spend alot of money as am planning on moving again in the next 18months. Is there no booster aerial I can use inside? Thanks again.Where in West Yorkshire ? Usually failure to get all the channels means you need work to improve the signal you recieve.

Most main transmitters are horizontal polarisation. Some relays are vertical but not all.Horizontal for relays and repeaters, vertical for main.
If there is a relay transmitter in the area it is because the main transmitter coverage is problematic. It is probable that a complete new aerial system will be needed to swap over and not just simply redirecting the existing one for the reasons already mentioned. With local relays you can usually get away with a low gain antenna which probably won't work well with a distant main transmitter even if pointed the right way.0 -

Put your post code into this link and it will indicate which transmitters you are likely to receive and suggest the type of aerial you need for each:

An inside aerial certainly won't work if an external one doesn't. Adding an amplifier "booster" won't usually achieve much either as all it will be doing is amplifying the noise as well as the signaloliveoil99 wrote: »Is there no booster aerial I can use inside? Thanks again.0 -

Think I will make do for now and see what the reception is like when I move next year. Thanks.Toxteth_OGrady wrote: »Put your post code into this link and it will indicate which transmitters you are likely to receive and suggest the type of aerial you need for each:

What results did you get?
Or if you're not sure how to interpret the results, PM me your postcode and I'll take a look for you.604!0
