Who, exactly have you been calling? 'ESA' isn't an entity nor a person. Have you been phoning a general DWP number, your local JobCentre or what?

Mind you, it is hard to believe that there is anyone in the country, let alone working for DWP, who has not heard of ATOS! However, there are some very poorly trained people answering some of the DWP phone lines (I am not referring to the Decision Makers or people handling the claims, but to the call-centre staff ) and I have heard of claimants being told a right load of rubbish!

The system is that ATOS send out the ESA50, after being advised to do so by DWP. The form is returned to ATOS who decide whether a face-to-face assessment is needed or whether they can advise regarding a decision based on the paperwork alone. When ATOS have come to their conclusion they send the paperwork back to DWP for a formal decision.

I hope that this clarifies things for you.

Nothing will show at DWP until a decision has been made. It took about 2 weeks for me to receive any word back from DWP after I called ATOS and they said they didn't need to see me for another WCA.

Took 2-3 weeks for the dd to hear about hers after a WCA. Each time she called DWP they couldn't even see that she had been for a medical.

It doesn't show on the DWP's systems when you call up, even if it is in front of the decision maker. When we kept calling about my dd's, they kept telling us that they hadn't heard back from ATOS yet. Called ATOS who assured us that they had sent the paperwork back 2 weeks before...

    Same happened with mine :/

No hon, the dd had been found fit for work first time round, reapplied under the 6 month rule. Placed in support group 2nd time around.

Mine was a reassessment. Done on paper without a face to face medical. But they still couldn't tell me anything until the decision maker had made their decision :/

ATOS has told you you won't need a medical....this means that ATOS recommends you have passed the assessment into WRAG or SG, however it is ESA who make the final decision, and they could still fail you.

Atos told you the report was sent to ESA 2 weeks ago...ok.

What is supposed to happen is that ESA puts a note on the ESA file to say "xx/xx/xx: ESA55 received from ATOS, passed to DM"

So when you phone up ESA they should be able to tell you that this note is there, if it is not there and it has been 14 days or more (since ATOS decision) then you should ask for a callback from ESA BC to confirm receipt of the ESA55.

When you have this confirmation it can take generally 2 - 3 weeks from the date of receiving the ESA55... for a decision, but 6 weeks is not uncommon and up to 5 months is possible (and very rare) before a decision is finally made.

Just this part really epitome. That has never shown either in my case or my dd's case, and didn't hear anything until the decision had actually been made. So although it should happen, it doesn't always show on their screens :/
