can I still request a PAC code and how does the number transfer work ?
Hi all,
2 weeks ago I gave 3 mobile the required 30 days notice of contract cancellation and did NOT ask for a PAC code.
The contract does not end for another 2 weeks, Can I still ask them for the PAC code ?
If so how long will it take them to supply it ?
I am thinking of getting a 12 month contract Vodafone mobile,
If I get the contract from one of the online mobile retailers and have the PAC code how does the OLD mobile number get onto the new mobile ?
Will the mobile be supplied with a SIM with the OLD mobile number or do I have to contact Vodafone after receipt of the new mobile.
thanks
Paul

YES you can get a PAC.
May I suggest you contact them immediatly and they can sort a PAC for you as you're still a customer, see thread listed "problems retaining old number".

make sure when you request the pac code that they STOP the cancellation because if it gets cancelled before the port date the port wont happen as you cant port a number that is not live !0

the best way to move your number from one service provider to another is to visit a store for the provider you want to go on to - don't go to a dealer as they sell all the networks and are commission driven - you give them the pac code and they will submit the request through their systems
there is a main 'port' website that all the networks use and when they receive a request for a port they literally 'claim' it on the website and put it into a Q ready to be activated on the requested port date,
on the port date the new networks systems will automatically shift the number from one network to another, this is why you will be given a new Sim card ,as the old one will only be able to work on the old network, the new Sim has a serial number and this is how they know where to route the calls, as the Sim number is matched up with your phone number on the systems ?
the number is then activated on the new Sim card, you should be advised to keep both Sims in both phones switched off as much as poss on the port date as this helps the networks to do there bit ! the port will go through sometime between 11-4 and you just need to keep checking your old phone, if its not working then try the new one, the number will automatically be routing to the new Sim !
hope this makes some sense0 -
