Thanks for your input. I have copied the quotes as written. No scanner!
The quotes are very different - each rgi had a different idea of what was required - one said I needed 5 trvs as per regulations, one said I only needed 2 to comply and two didn't mention needing them at all!
company 1 was recommended by the company that maintains the boilers for the block and has been in operation in the area longer than I have been alive (!). Co's 2 and 3 were from trading standards website. Quote 4 was from a one man band card through the door type.
1 and 3 turned the taps on- I think thats how you measure pressure?
Should I get some more quotes?Emergency savings: 4600

Flow and pressure should be measured using
Get #1 and #3 to refine their quotes. They should be happy to answer any questions you might have and if not then find someone else recommended to quote.

Is this another British Gas person who claims everything is dangerous and just happens to receive more commission on the sale of an overpriced new boiler installation than he does repairing a tiny part?
Get the boiler checked out as it is by an independent. Not asking 'how much to replace?' just 'how much to fix?'.
There's a good chance it is easily and cheaply repairable. Ex-MIL was on the receiving end of this scam. Quoted £4 grand to replace because it was 'dangerous' and spent ages without any heat or hot water because he claimed it was impossible to fix when it went 'ping' during the contract service.
All it needed was a registered gas safe guy not on commission to readjust something inside and it worked again.
When she did replace it, the new boiler from an independent cost about £1500.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Hi Bralla....I like the phrase you mention from one of the quotes.
"Dispose of safely". I sold a couple of small copper cylinders recently TO a scrap man for £40.0
