  • 'Tropical' covers quite a wide variety! Do you mean tropical island - somewhere like the Maldives or Caribbean or just somwhere hot? Madeira off the coast of Africa is technically Europe (Portugal) but because it's so far south, you get the tropical flowers and fruits and it feels very tropical. Do you have a budget?
  • Hi, sounds lovely!

I've been looking into this for my own honeymoon, and generally speaking you have to factor in two main costs: flights and accommodation.

Flight-wise, the cheapest non-European 'desert islands' are in the Indian Ocean, southern Africa and the Caribbean, at around £700 to £800 for flights each. Flights elsewhere (eg Pacific islands, New Zealand etc) are around £1,000 to £1,100.

But the cheapest accommodation is in Asia.

So...we personally are seriously considering Thailand as the best value long-haul tropical getaway. But take a look at some brochures and websites and see which places appeal to you. You might get a good late deal on a cruise - but it just depends if you want to leave your honeymoon till the last minute!

It really depends on your budget, what time of year you are planning to go and what you want from the holiday. Would your idea of heaven be a beach holiday or something more adventurous?
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Where do you want to go?? Honestly, it's your honeymoon. Think about what you want to do (other than the obvious ;)), think about how much you've got to spend, and off you go...

Mexico - Riviera Maya. Hayes and Jarvis doing some good deals flying with Virgin. You can have a beach type vacation or do some trips to see various mayan ruin sites or dive on the reef. Remember quidco cashback. I would say use trip advisor to check out the hotels and which part of the yucatan you want to visit as this will be an expensive holiday (in region of £2-3K starting for a week in 4 star all inc) so you don't want to get it wrong.

We went to Mexico for our honeymoon. Or have a look at Villa Samahdi in Kuala Lumpur. We are off there at the end of the month as it looks very romantic.
