Cheap USA usage?

I'm going to the Big Apple for 4 days and wonder whats the best thing to do mobilewise.

My main mobile is a 3 contract one but I also have an O2 contract phone which I don't use.

Both are tri-band but I hear reception can be dodgy especially on 3. Is it worth buying a US sim? I could then be called for 0.5p per minute via 18185.

Presumably better getting a calling card to make calls from payphones when calling home?

Cheers

buy a US prepaid T-Mobile or Cingular sim, remember your prepaid mins are deducted for incoming & outgoing calls though

saying that prepaid is cheap as chips over there
