want to buy an android tablet with SD card slot

Options
hi, since this market is very fluid, it gets hard to decide.
mainly, it needs to be a 7 inch, wi-fi, sd card expandable, say 64 gig( micro or otherwise ), usb slot and a very good screen.
has anybody had to make this decission and what came up top ?
up to recently, i thought a netbook would do the trick, but now they are all discontinued !?? was there a problem with them ?

I might be wrong but I don't think many of them have a USB slot these days although you can normally buy a USB OTG cable which allows you to plug an adapter in and give you a USB port. A memory card slot rules out the Google Nexus 7 so I'd be looking at some of the Samsung models, they usually have a memory card slot and they've produced quite a few 7in models.

Netbooks aren't all discontinued, there's still some out there but they've been mostly killed off by tablets as people were frustrated by the low performance of the Atom processor on the Netbooks. I think they were good for what they were and would prefer one over a tablet as you get a hard drive, USB port and keyboard but depends what you want it for. Also depending on your budget, I think this Asus is quite a good buy:

It's quite a bit more than a Netbook but it's thin, light machine and although the processor is a budget one the operating system feels quick and responsive to use. You get a USB port and 500GB HD as well.

  • that looks like a great option. 500 gigs HHD ! with all the new tablets and hybrids, i have completely missed that one.

The newer samsung tablets allow you to add an sd card.

You can get Android based netbooks now too, look like a normal netbook with a trackpad and keyboard but running Android.

That said I still depend on my normal 10" Netbook a lot, the battery outlasts tablets and the Atom CPU is fine for normal use and there is the biggy of storage, a hard drive and as many usb sticks as you like, usually also have an SD card slot too.

    How about this £203 delivered..

Or much better this one at £248, dual core cpu, HDMI output, only 1" thick, only downside is it comes with Windows 8 so you might want to slap Win 7 or Linux on.

  • so glad netbooks are not completely gone. the asus vivobook and the Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook seem a nice choice to have . which one is the faster processor i wonder.

i believe, you hit it on the nail. the dual core acer has it,
as you said, conditional on getting rid of WIN 8. i shall look into that now. thanks again.

I would keep Windows 8 on low end hardware particularly as it runs noticeably better than Windows 7, it's more responsive and doesn't feel like it's running on slower hardware. It's also reasonably easy to ignore the touch side and run it much like Windows 7.

Envious if you get one, it looks a useful little thing, the screen resolution is better than old netbooks and yet the thing is barely more cumbersome than a tablet if a bit heavier, with a proper keyboard too.

I have seen threads on here that its not too difficult to make Win8 look a lot like Win7 if you want to.

yes, there is actually a step by step guide on CNET. doesn't look too difficult. noticed, on 8 you can not play DVD's any more !!? what were they thinking ? fortunately there is VCL, which i guess everybody keeps anyway.
    thanks again.
