I did a quote search 2 years ago and noticed all banks and building societies home contents insurance quotes for me (I live in the South East) where £70-100 more expensive then getting a quote from an insurer on the web.
Check if you can cancel the policy without penalty.
Then go to a site like confused.com and see if you can get a cheaper quote. Make sure you read the small print of the policy.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
premiums are set by postcode. My buildings and contents accidental damage and pers poss is just over £20pm but I am in one of the cheapest postcodes in the country.
50k is not what you would get in the event of a claim. It is automatically covered upto 50k. That sort of figure is typical nowadays.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). For £25,000 cover i paid £86 through Direct Line BUT ... got £75 back through Quidco so paid a net total of £11.:DWHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -
86 for the year or month0

I'm guessing for the year.
Most insurers websites still seem to undervalue contents in teh hope the headline figures flatter to deceive. Better to pay for cover you need rather than a price you like the look of. Ours is £18pm I think for about £70k(but excludes the Barclays cashback on the policy)0 -

i just bought a laptop and decided i now needed contents insurance incase it gets stolen/i damage it accidentally..
got a quote from Nationwide at almost £500 per year..i'd rather buy a new laptop...obviously i'm going to get a few more quotes...they said it was because of my postcode...
still in shock....laptop cost less..
Ensleigh quoted me £214.89 - still a lot considering as i rent i don't own any furniture...0 -

not being funny but wouldn't a basic laptop insurance policy be better suited, a contents policy is covering more than just your laptop and contains assumptions about what other bits it is covering.
i.e. first google hit, £800 laptop cover = £75 insurance
or cheaper still

I'm a tenant aswell, I rent my property longterm unfurnished, everything in it is mine barr the obvious i.e the kitchen and bathroom fittings.
My insurance is for £10000.00 as I went round my house and priced all I had in each room, to an approximate. My contents for the year is £86 or £6 something per month
The one thing I would say is dont go mad over pricing your contents I cant see how it pays off at anytime
