    Thanks for replies all.

I really want to be debt free, I have worked so hard so far!

The cars I do need two, because we have a school run and I also use my car for work, the school is very far away.

I also currently have 2 cars, one 11 plate, one 10 plate. But my 11 plate is only a hire car, so it needs to go back and I'd rather buy next time than pay for nothing (saving hopefully)

The house is a long term goal and I know it's going to take time. My current home is no longer suitable and I will not take a profit from the sale at all.

Not sure what to say now, I haven't decided anything at all yet, I'm waiting on circumstances ;)

Well I've read it all now.

2 foreign holidays in one year. 2 nearly new new cars. One owned and one hired.

And you are trying really hard to get out of debt.

You need to start ignoring the Jones.

ETA- I know it can be hard, but you have to look at the bigger picture.

Why do you need to buy two more cars? You have two already and even if you return one as it's a hire purchase, and replace it by buying another, there's no need for a second new car.

I'm expecting 4K in April (well it's certain but I don't get it until then) That's the money for the 1 car.

I then have to buy another, maybe?

 You said your £4k comp payout is buying another car... That will make three for I guess two adults. I see no reason why you can't now throw the whole £4k comp to your debt then continue to follow the plan I posted earlier, that would leave you £2488 in debt before your tax rebate. So in reality you can certainly be debt free by June. You can then save and have a holiday and savings by this time next year....

However I don't feel like that will ever happen. I believe you will blow the whole comp, the whole tax rebate then continue to pay min payments. Then in a year or so's time you will be here after losing your job, not being able to pay your rent/mortgage and being potetionally homeless. All beacuse you wanted to keep up with the Jones because 'life is too short'.

I really hope the above doesn't happen because I wouldn't wish that on anyone, I think your lightbulb may have lost all power... For now.

Sorry need to pay 4k to buy out the lease on 10 plate.

11 plate too expensive to buy out so giving back and need to get another.

Aim is to have 2 cars only, both paid for.

I think because I haven't told my life story people don't quite understand all of my plans. Sorry about that but I have tried to correct where it looks like I'm just being greedy, I don't want 3 cars lol.

So does everyone else on here.

You don't think the rest of have?

You don't think the rest of have?

Both points are true, but I'm not trying to say anything else about what others have done, some people have done much better than me, some people worse, I'm not here to judge, just to say what I'm trying to do and asking what people thought.

I can see the general feeling is no and I have also thought the same and decided to review again in the summer to see if things have changed enough to allow me the additional treat. :D

But I do appreciate the opinion, it's all good and helps me to think about each aspect of my situation.

Some things like my cars, I think my idea is solid and is the best idea. Unless anyone else can give me better advice, because if it's better I'd be really happy to know about it and would love to save more money if I could.

I spend £400 a month on cars at the moment, when I spend my 4K in April, that's £200 month saved and when I send my other back any maybe buy my own? Then that's the further £200 saved. Idea is always saving for me - well apart from my holiday idea

You will honestly enjoy the holiday so much more if you go when you are debt free - I think it would be worth the wait!

A (second) holiday is not a 'treat' as you cannot afford it. You are in debt. You owe money that you do not have. You are planning on spending yet more money that you do not have - on a week in the sun. That week will fly by whilst you will spend months if not years paying for it. And no doubt the stress will mean you will do the same next year and the year after ad infinitum....

  • Well, maybe the dreaming about the Holiday is enough? The thought that 'I could have another Holiday if I wanted one' might sustain you - especially if you follow it with '.....but actually I dont want one, becuase Iwant to be debt free more'

The overwhelming feeling is no. But you're going to go anyway.
