I'll be brave, Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Waitrose, Co-Op, Safeway, Summerfields. There I've done it:D And I'll bet a million pounds nobody comes along and deletes this post.;)
TBH I think a custom of saying MrT etc as a form of shorthand grew up, and then some people have thought we have to use code and not say the full name.
If I'm wrong, and I get run off the site, it was nice knowing you all:rotfl:
I didn't know either, just saw it an asssumed we are not allowed:beer: . Nice knowing you too:D0 -
This thread got me thinking yesterday. I have been out today to ''Asda'' and bought some wholemeal bread flour which I will mix with white bread flour in my Panasonic. I had put it in a cupboard during the summer as for some reason I am not as into making bread in Summer.
I haven't tried just doing dough and putting it in the oven other then some wholemeal rolls which were just dandy.
What shape did you do??
I also tried the 5 minute bread and thought it was shi'te. Tried 4 times.0 -
I've posted about this elsewhere but can't find the thread. My new panasonic 255 (Amazon - £88) turned up today at about midday. 12.30 it was washed and dried and cooking the first loaf. I say first because that one disappeared within minutes of it being finished lol. Just given the panny time enough to cool down (put it outside ha ha) and off it went again.
I used a tesco packet for a first try.., texture was hundreds of times better than my previous BM but not sure it rose properly. The loaf was about the size of a small tin loaf which is smaller than i expected for an XXL loaf?
What size loaf should a 500mg packet mix produce.., just wondering if I need to do something else to the mix to make a bigger loaf (will be doing two a day at the rate they disappear lol)?
But having said that, very glad I bought it, the loaf was much better than I've produced before as I said and can't stand spending £1.20 a loaf in supermarkets.
And thanks for this thread. Without reading people's impressions of the Panny, and advice on how to make various breads (and where the cheaper items can be bought) I doubt I'd have felt it was worthwhile paying out as much as a panny costs.
Now for some experimenting with seeds etc he he!0 -
I shaped my bread into a sort of bloomer shape and baked on a baking tray and it was lovely. Done some more today but wholemeal baked at 190 or gas mark 5 for about 30-45 mins.

I tried a packet mix once but have found the seperate ingredient method much better. My daughter came home today from school and asked me what I put in the bread today because it was so delicious! This is coming from a nine year old who doesn't like a great deal....
The ingredients were Doves Farm Strong Organic White Flour, Doves Farm Quick yeast (cheapest yeast by a very long way), little sugar, little salt, little basics butter & filtered tap water. Probably 60secs more work than a packet mix and still fantastic value :j0 -

I usually use seperate ingredients in my panny but I keep some of the tesco packets in just in case. I found that if you put it on the large loaf setting and on fast bake it comes out the best.:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
when you make hmb all youput in it are flour - water - yeast , the basic ingredients
supermarket bread and bread manufacuters aren't interested about taste - everything is profit orientated , that's why it tastes so bland , is full of air and preservatives to keep it fresh ( i exclude the small bakeries , our local shop has some bread which is great )............ i would have thought that if your hmb was a little bit more expensive - the superior taste will be worth the cost0 -
Thanks for your replies.., I am wondering tho.., altho I know its a personal taste thing.., what is a guide for 'a little salt' and a 'little sugar'. Very keen to keep salt to a minimum (the bread mix is a bit too salty but just about edible .., and i can't stand sweet bread when its supposed to be savoury but realise it probably helps the yeast (altho whether it is necessary depends on who u talk to lol). I know this is personal taste but would be very grateful to hear what your personal experiences are.0

I use 2 teaspoons of salt to 1.5kg flour and this makes 4 medium sized loaves so that is only 1/2 tsp salt per loaf far less than in commercially produced bread. I find bread with no salt unpaletable. I never use any sugar though so my bread is usually just flour, yeast, salt and water.0

Thanks for that.., will try it later tonite ready for the morning. No salt and half a teaspoon of salt . Gives me a starting point as i hate wasting ingredients and four hours of cooking time he he!0
