Hi all
I have bought a huge bag of dried chick peas, would love to cook a load and freeze them to use a bit at a time in different dishes, does anyone know if they freeze well and if indeed they are ok used that way.

I do this all the time. Soak and cook them as usual. Drain thoroughly and leave them to cool. Then I put them on a layer of greaseproof paper or baking parchment on a baking tray in a single layer. Fast freeze them then transfer them into a plastic lidded tub. Or a freezer bag would work. They can be cooked straight from frozen which is a bonus.
Doing them this way ensures they don't freeze into one big clump.0 -

Lovely, thanks so much. I'm hoping it works out cheaper than using tins and from what I can remember they taste better?0 -
There's actually no difference in taste but it's definitely cheaper! I do the same with dried beans too.
I keep meaning to look through my 'kitchen library' for a recipe which I've seen for spiced chickpeas - they're flavoured and blasted in the oven to make a tasty crunchy snack.0 -

I was going to ask about dried beans, we get through lots of pulses so switching to drired should save some money.
The chickpeas sound lovely, if you do find it I would love the recipe.0 -
Can anyone let me know how long the soaked chickpeas need to be cooked for? The last time I did them was in the pressure cooker and they were overcooked - can't remember how long I done them for but found the time somewhere on line and it was obviously far too long.

I found an amazing mixed bean and chorizo chilli recipe which we eat all the time! Served with rice, pittas and grated mozzarella mixed with chopped fresh coriander. Ooh my mouth's watering!0
