Anyone own a Dacia?

Someone will suggest a Ford Mondeo for sure...Je suis sabot...0

Dacia ran a cracking campaign drip feeding the launch for months and by all accounts the bargain basement Duster is as good as they promised. Really tempting at a fiver short of £9k (for the little petrol), the only problem would be keeping to your guns and not up-speccing it and spoiling the bargain. I don't think they've over-europeanised them and a company I did work for in SA ran them until they could take no more, but that was generally five years of constant abuse in the mines!0

Duster only scored a miserable 3* in NCAP safety tests. I do think the Duster looks great, they did a good job as they only had cardboard to work with.0

The Duster uses the same engine/transmission/floorpan as the Nissan Quashqui, so you know the 4wd system is going to be robust.
'5th gear' tried to drive one to destruction & failed. Even with every upgrade available, you still pay less for a top-spec Duster than a base model Quashqui.
Had I got a permanent contract, I would have ordered one.Never Knowingly Understood.

The Duster uses a Renault engine and transmission (TL8). The platform isn't exactly the same as Nissan, it is just based on that particular platform (e.g.. to be significantly cheaper, made using some ancient Renault parts)
There is a recent article in German Auto Motor und Sport magazine re: Duster transmission problems - many don't last 20K kilometres, and Dacia Germany refuses any warranty repairs quoting "operator error/abuse". Even the magazine test car had a major transmission problem after 5000km. Usually they are beyond repair and are scrapped. Also there are numerous reports of rust problems, mainly with brake and suspension components even on 3-4 month old cars.
They've sold Dusters in Germany for quite a while, so just google "dacia duster getriebe probleme" and you'll get a long list of forum discussions/complaints (not just about transmissions), then just use Google translate.
Plus the 3-star NCAP..."Retail is for suckers"

they seem to be very popular in europe.
but i do hate the uk tv ad and the miss pronouciation of dacia as datchia? i can still remember the dacia dusters of the 80s and see loads of old renault 12's in turkey rebadged as dacias
You do know that the world doesnt revolve around us here in the uk????
Its pronounced DATCHIA. Its THEIR car, its THEIR language, THEY know how to say it.

Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce Grand Prix?
The literal way to pronounce it would be Prix as in Twix, however we pronounce it as it is pronounced in its native language as Pree.
Or are the french pronouncing it wrong?? :rotfl:0 -
Ha .. we were talking about the Dacia Sandero Access at work recently, as I commented that every new car now has body coloured bumpers, which surely just means more money for insurance companies as bumpers are costlier to fix...
The Sandero Access was the car that my manager came up with as the only one he could think of that didn't have body coloured bumpers...Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
If my dad ever brought home a Sandero or Duster I'd personally remove his scrotum.0

The pronounciation in the advert is correct, the general pronounciation in the UK is incorrect - the little diacritical mark on the S in Škoda is what gives it that effect.
