Facebook payments via PayPal (Warning)

My PayPal account shows a number of transactions to Facebook, none of which were authorised.

Oddly, the usual e-mail from paypal saying a payment had been made was not sent.

I have cancelled the pre-authorised payment which the unauthorised user set up for this, and disputed the transactions.

Google shows that some PayPal accounts have been used for payments well into four figures

You need to spend some time now working out where your security is lax and get it sorted. Ask on the techie board about doing a deep clean on your pc to see if you have a virus, I assume you haven't responded to any dodgy phishing emails?

    Not replied to phishing e-mails.

PC has anti-logger installed, will check for virus etc.

Very good point, in particular children as we have seen in the news recently.

Whatever has happened, hope you get it sorted.

    Nobody else uses the PC

PayPal said they would give the other party seven days to respond, however, they sent e-mails for the three transactions, saying it had been resolved now and a refund would be sent within five days.

Not sure if I will add the card details back, or if I will add them back to make a payment then delete them straight away, or if I will use Amazon instead.

Sounds like they very quickly ascertained that it wasn't you who made the transactions - IP address probably indicated someone who wasn't in the same country.

If you haven't done so already, change your PayPal password/security questions.

    Thanks

It was part of the reporting process.

Still keeping a watch on the bank accounts in case they have any useful details from there, the Bank said they may issue new cards if it happens again.

Bit unsettling though, especially with all the safest way to pay blurb.

Same thing has happened to me overnight. 2 lots of $125.00usd taken out for facebook credit.

I have opened a dispute and it is encouraging to see you got your money back.

Have changed passwords for my paypal, as well as my facebook and hotmail just in case.

Is there anything else I can do security wise?

Visit the tech board and follow the instructions for scanning for malware - they possibly got your password etc through a keylogger or a phishing site.
