BT Infinity 2

I currently have Tv, Phone and BB with Sky but lately the BB has been so slow it takes a minute to get a page up. Ok thats wireless and when we plugged a laptop into the router it got 4.1MBS however laptop upstairs was less than 1 Mbs.
The guy told us to switch everything off and then back on and while he was on the phone we seemed to get about 4Mbs from the other laptop so he said it was old wireless connections hadn't been closed - or something like that. Needless to say 5 minutes after the call ended it all went back to the same very slow performance.
AS I have had a similar situation before with Sky i am now looking for a more reliable and faster source.
I will not ever consider Virgin as when I had their BB it was great until they apparently connected 2 of my neighbours to my line = virtually no connection. I left them for Sky.
I will admit I'm not totally up to date with all the new stuff and am looking at the BT Infinity 2 package which the website reckons I should get 52.5Mbs. That I think should run the 2 Xboxes and 2 laptops and 2 mobiles and my old pc - not that they are all on at the same time.
Sky can't do over 38Mbs and I have seen Plusnet is doing a package cheap at the mo but as they are using BT lines how long for?
I can cope with a bit of useless custoner service if I get the BB connection and at the end of the day they all have to go to BT to get a line checked and fixed so why not start off with them.
I would appreciate some advice please

It sounds like your problem is more with the wifi than the connection to the internet. Do you live in a block of flats or a densely populated area with lots of wifi connections? If this is the case then swapping internet providers may not help.

If it is practical then using an Ethernet cable rather than wifi is always going to be more reliable. Obviously you cant do this with a phone or tablet.

One thing that may help is changing the channel that your wifi users. This is a setting in your router.

Is it possible that one of your neighbours has guessed your wifi password and is using your connection?

Sorry that this is not a lot of help but the stating point has to be finding the root cause of the problem.

As above, this is a wireless issue-if you are getting 4 times the speed downstairs, then it's absolutely nothing to do with your ISP or line. Their responsibility ends at the router. Restest using ethernet from the BT test socket.
Try changing the wireless channel or using Homeplugs instead.

    Hi Guys and Thanks

Well it is possible that the kid next door might have guessed the password (totally random as given by sky) but as my lad said - he wouldn't know what to do if he did.

We live in a semi-detached house so who knows what the family on the other side are capable of - at most we are talking 15m

With both my boys on Xbox i reckon that maybe we are being slowed down so I am happy to pay for a better package. I am just not sure whether to stay with Sky and go for their 38MB or pay £4 more a month and go for BT Infinity 2 which is supposed to be 78MB - but the BT site has said I could only get 52MB

So many people seem to have dissed BT but how can Sky be any better when they are using the BT Lines?

Maybe it's going to be a 'suck it and see' and I'll be back on here asking how to sort the wireless bit

Sad thing is 1 of my lads is doing ICT at college - he could stop me playing my fav game on my pc (in his dreams) but they don't teach them the things you need to know!

I actually thought that over the years stuff like this would get easier for the end user but sorry to say it definately hasn't.

If it's a Sky LLU service, they won't be using BT's network-they use their own.
