Some brokers have a sell on HI now. Depends whether it is one of Woodford's contrarian periods, or whether his defensive stance pays off by end of year. I'm not switching meanwhile but the fund may be too big to be nimble (but that's been said that for some years now)
Past performance..... as they say.
However, he's done OK so far. I read a few years back (when the fund was worth "only" about £8billion) that it may be too big. Of the 8 funds I currently hold, this fund has performed the best over the past 2 or 3 months. Of course, it may well slip back, but I see no reason to doubt that Woodford can continue to provide investors with decent returns in the medium to long term.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

I told him to stop giving stupid advice, to save the embarrassment I sent it in a private message. Imagine this was face to face, would you tell someone this in front of a whole audience of people, or would take them to one side and highlight it?0 -
Ahmadinejad would applaud your diplomacywhether his defensive stance pays off by end of year
He has looked bad before too, like 2010 I think when he failed to buy the big oil and so on. He is not chasing prices, sometimes thats poor performance.
That matches up right now, we are in a relative boom type rise
Maybe instead of buying more gold fund & tech like I was thinking, I should get IP HI
I did hold it before and really I sold it at the wrong time, probably now is a good time to at least consider it while staying involved in an elevated market0 -

Perhaps rather than attacking the person, and using words like "stupid", you could have instead just offered a well-researched contrary opinion in a polite and constructive manner?I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I read a few years back (when the fund was worth "only" about £8billion) that it may be too big.
I've had it since around '96, the only pep fund I've never changed, (figured you should give him a minimum of a year of under for benefit of the doubt) and I'm pretty sure that the "too big" tag has been repeated for at least 10 years, I certainly remember reading it when it got to 2 bil !0 -
I've decided to change my requirements a little. The dividends don't matter considering I'll be doing a monthly forex transaction and can adjust that slightly to leave enough in the account for commissions.
With the change in requirements and, bearing in mind that US trades (where most of my current investing knowledge lies) are $1 each, I've selected a portfolio of 6 US stocks in which I will be investing $2,500 total. I won't be adding to this investment unless it drops below $2,000 in value (where my IB commissions would be increased). The rest of my investing will be done via ISA's.
My selections are below and, based on current prices, each selection will represent a total of between 15.09% and 17.74% of the portfolio.
Although my previous posts highlighted that I'm not too worried about the growth in this portion of my overall portfolio, I thought that I might as well put as much thought into it as I would the rest.
The portfolio is well diversified with respect to the sectors, but not geographically. I'm happy enough to bear that risk.

By the way, my requirement to keep the Interactive Brokers account open should end early next year. At that point, the portfolio will be liquidated and my ISA and Pension will be my sole investments.0

Well, that's the trades made.
Canadian National Railway * 5
Apple * 1
Wells Fargo * 12
Occidental Petroleum Corporation * 5
Caterpillar * 4
American Tower Corp * 5
Total Value: $2,511.92.
I realise that the above is above average with regards to volatility and there is a, maybe 30%+, chance of it dropping below the required $2,000 minimum - but I can just add to the positions if that happens.0 -

I think we know better than that from his posts we've seen on the forum already. Aside from a stunningly high opinion of himself I haven't seen anything else remotely impressive from him so far.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Maybe, but at least we can all keep suggesting what's actually going to make the pass.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
