late payment trick?

My wife recently got a halifax o% card, and she will be late paying off the first payment due to circumstances beyond her control. The charge , I belive, is £25. Is it true they dont charge for the first late payment, or if they do does anyone have any slick ideas to get out of the payment? Thanks to all!

Do you mean because she will be unable to get to a bank to make the payment (eg in hospital) or because she doesn't have the money to meet the repayments?

I find the truth is usually a sufficent excuse when accompanied by enough promises of "not letting it happen again". Unless "circumstances beyond your control" means "I had better things to do woth the money" I'd suggest you try that too.

If she was too late to post the payment but the due date has not yet passed, she can pay over the phone by debit card.
  • she tried that, they said she couldnt pay over the phone.

halifax take debit card payments via the internet or you can use online bill payments from your own bank. Usually specifies 2 days.

My Goldfish can be done over the phone with debit card for same day payment, my Thomas Cook card can be paid on the WWW by debit card no later than the day before paymeny is due.

I also remember being "let off" years ago by pleading I had posted a cheque and it was lost in the post.

Be careful, if you are late with the first payment they may take the 0% off you.

I would pre-empt it by ringing them to say it will be late and why.

I used to have a Halifax card. Due to a !!!! up by another bank, my payment didn't reach them and I was charged. When I called up to request the charge was revoked, they were happy to do this.
