OrangeCare Insurance & Clone

Hi,

My wife just upgraded her phone to a samsung galaxy s3 and decided to get her phone insured. They told her that she would have to pay £10 for it as she needs to pay £4 for the Clone insurance.

At the same time, I also upgraded my phone and as I already had insurance with them with my previous contract I was told that adding the Clone insurance was optional.

So now I am paying £6 per month for insurance and the wife is paying £10.

Does anyone know if it is compulsory to have this Clone insurance as the advisers are telling us? I have had a look at their website, and it clearly says that we can get different levels of insurance ranging from £6, £10, or £15.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

It's not compulsory but their Insurance product has changed from 'care' to Clone Phone and cost of it it dependent on level of cover and handset type.

As you already have 'Care' then they will allow you to keep that but the price is due to go up to £7.99.

As a bit of an expert in this area I felt compelled to look into this new poorly named (in my opinion) Phone Clone insurance.

Firstly, who the hell would want to pay £4 per month just to sync your phone?, as john1 said there are so many ways you probably already do this such as Gmail, Outlook, cheap apps or even just iTunes.

The top tier (Fully Loaded) option is a theft and loss policy with the usual get out clauses you expect to find. The T&C's also state that any other costs such as phone calls arising from a stolen phone are not covered. They also state that any replacement will be from refurbished stock and may well be a different make and/or model.

Orange Phone Clone charge to insure an iPhone 5 £14 a month, that's £336 over a 24 month contract.

Square Trade charge £99 for 2 years cover, that's a saving of £237 but no theft or loss included (not that you could claim anyway with all the get out clauses)

Why Warranties charge £59 per year for an iPhone 5 payable monthly and there are £15 discount codes on their facebook page making it just £44 for a year!

I am a believer in insurance but only if the price is right and the cover described is really the cover you are getting.
