Railcard qualifying criteria review
A review of the qualifying criteria use for new Disabled Persons Railcard applications is underway following the Government’s decision to replace the Disability Living Allowance with Personal Independence Payments.
If you already have a Railcard, the new criteria will not affect you as long as you keep renewing your card.
The revised qualifying criteria for the Disabled Persons Railcard will be published online and in the Disabled Persons Railcard leaflet from May 2013.

I don't have a railcard yet and my PIP won't be assessed until 2015, would I be advised to apply for a railcard now before they bring in the new criteria?
I wondered when they done this, next will be the cinema cards.0 -
if you qualify now and want one then, I personally, think the best way to go is to apply now
see for qualifications

this isn't relevant to everyone but if you're visually-impaired travelling with a companion or you remain in your own wheelchair during a journey you can get the same (or better!) discounts without the need for purchasing a railcard.

If it is £20 would it be worth it if you do not use the rail that much. If you book in advance you would get even a better deal with fares and could be better off without using a the rail card with the 1/3 off the fare.0 -

You get 1/3rd off ALL and ANY fare. If you booked in advance for say London to Manchester and they charged you £10, the discount would be £3 so you would end up paying £7.
For any distance of travel beyond say an hour in the car with mum/dad, we always use the train. This card goes way beyond any of the others that they issue and on top of that it also gives the same discount to a companion (me) that travels with them!0
