Problems retaining old O2 number

Please could someone give me some advice.

When cancelling my contract, I requested to retain the number and was told OK we'll send a code pack. Before the cease date I rang O2 because the pack hadn't turned up, again told it would be posted. NOW a couple of days after the end of contract, I am being told that this is impossible. I've kicked up a bit of a fuss - they have offered only £20 compensation.

This is causing so many problems not having my old number, am I being unreasonable to expect more?

Comments welcome.

If you request a PAC (Port Authorisation Code), officially, they have to release it in 48 hours. Also O2 normally send a text giving the number. If it not arrived within 48 hrs, you have the right to phone them and ask for the PAC.

What is the notice period that you have given to thme to cancel the contract? Have you followed it up?

Unfortunately, if the contract is now cancelled I do not think that you can have your number or a new PAC.

I would suggest that you make an official complaint to O2 (in writing) to ask for valid explation.

    Thanks for your reply beever85.

O2 were given a months notice and at that point were asked for a PAC code. They said they would send it, then contacted them to remind them and I was assured "it will be sent". The contract has now ended and today after a considerable amount of time on the phone only to be told no PAC.

They CAN still give you the number, it's put in something called quarantine for at least six months before they can give it out again. It much more complicated to get it back, but since its their mistake insist that they get it done.

Complain to [SIZE=-1]Peter Eskine, and they should be able to get you their techy guys to put the number on a prepay sim and give you a PAC.

    Thank you Heng Leng.

Does that mean the sim will work on my new 3 network contract phone?

I've been talking to O2 this morning and they do not have Peter Eskine listed. The lad I spoke to was helpful but after talking (and holding on while he spoke to his manager) in total for 38 minutes I requested they put all this in writing. Can you believe they aren't allowed to write to their customers!!!!

Appreciate the help, I must get this sorted.

the trouble is, a request for a pac and a request for a cancellation are 2 separate processes and if the cancellation goes through before you have ported then the port wont go ahead, as you have found out ! why not ask them to reactivate the number so you can have a pac code ? they should do this as a good will gesture if nothing else, but DO make sure that after the number has ported that there are no charges on the account as technically you will have entered a new contract and for this reason will be charged an early termination fee, this fee should be wavered so make sure they do it ! the number needs to be active to port so they have to reactivate it for this process to happen

    I would still think the best solution/alternative here would be making an official complaint. Please make sure to point out the following;

    (1) To activate the number (also make sure thay do not charge any rental).
    (2) Request a 30 day cancellation.
    (3) Request a PAC and make sure you get it before the cancellation.

Will try the luck if you really want your number back.
