New Car Help
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could help me.
I'm looking at buying a new car and its Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 that I'm looking at.
I've had my current car since I could drive (KA) which my parents bought for me. So I've never had to go through the process of picking / buying a car before.
I've seen 1, its a 62 plate thats ane done 3,000 miles (hoping to get it for £10,500).
Is it sensible to get a car this 'new' or am I better off spending less and getting something older? How old?
Example would be same car, but 08 plate, 25,000 miles, £8000.
I've heard that 'new' cars often lose value as soon as they are taken away from the garage, so its made me wonder whether new-ish cars are usually less value than older cars.
Any thoughts / feedback / advice appreciated.
Thanks

Since the 1.4 zetec is the outgoingmodel you can probably still pick up a "brand new" one of those for about £10,500 (rather than a nearly new).
Broadspeed for example suggests you can do just that.
You can also get the new zetec 1.25 for under £10,500 via broadspeed.
New cars do depreciate as soon as you drive them off the forecourt but the loss / depreciation really depends on how long the car is going to stay with you and how much you care about having the car from new v's someone else and how they looked after it.
The MSE response would be that if your Ka has nothing wrong with it then keep it0 -
Thanks! KA needs to go, its just failed its MOT for welding and think thats a sign it needs to go :-) Its been costing me around £300-£500 each year for the last 2 for MOT / Service and its probably only worth £600 - £800. I commute 60 miles a day so after something more steady anyway rather than a 'run around'.0

As alleycat said, you might want to look at just how much of a discount you are being offered. Try drivethedeal too to see what a new one comes out at.
I take it the 60 miles is there and back and isn't a 120 mile round trip! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Yes, thats round trip
Will have a look, thanks!
I think I priced a brand new one at £15,500 - £16,00.0 -

When you drive a brand new car off the forecourt you lose the VAT straightaway, which is what people mean with losing value.
A new 3 door Zetec 1.25 lists at £12645 and as was pointed out above the 1.4 litre engine is no longer used in the 2013 model range. If you can get the 62 plate one for £10500 it will represent a useful saving on the new price, but it is worth looking around at sites like Broadspeed and Drive the Deal to see what can be done."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

What spec did you use for that, did that price include any options? The current price range of the Zetec is from £12645 to £15345, depending on what engine you go for. The 1.0 Ecoboost is £13645 and Drive the Deal list this at £10486 with no options listed, a saving of £3158."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Thanks all. Its 5DR I'm after and that seems to bump the price up too.
That was just for a new version of the ford fiesta zetec 1.4, 5 doors.0 -
As above, have a look on driverthedeal, UK Car Discount, Braodspeed etc. You may be surprised as to what sort of deal you can achieve for a new car.
Have you considered other makes, eg, Kia, Toyota etc.0 -

The five door option adds £600 to the price of the three door."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I got a 61 plate Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec (5 door) new for £9800 so there are definitely discounts to be had, particularly with Fords.
We got ours through an independent broker but Drive the Deal are very similar price wise. The only area you'll struggle with is wanting a 1.4 as there are less of them, there will be fewer discounts available.
For the price you're looking at, I'd still go for new though - we've recently been quoted to swap ours for a new one and it comes in at less than 11k (2013 Fiesta prices have gone up a lot since last year).Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840
