If they're a church, they get to do what they want without consequence. That's what the law says, doesn't it?

Ha... you've obviously never tried to run a church! In short no... being caught in a web of red-tape doesn't just apply to the government!!
  • If they are "secretive, non-mainstream" then I would hazard a guess it would prove very difficult to physically talk to them - as I am assuming that maybe they are one of those sects that believe in keeping themselves apart from The World (and you're it - ie a representative of The World).

Maybe you need to start on a different tack and google around a bit to see what bits of the Bible they are laying heaviest emphasis on (in order to check out suitable Bible verses they lay great store by in working out what their conduct should be) and then write a letter to the pastors/elders/whatever the name is of the person or group of people running this church quoting said verses to prove they arent abiding by their own "rules of conduct" as to how to interact with The World.

It's an offbeat idea - but it might just work.

Naturally, enough we bought the property expecting traffic on days/times of services but for it to be quiet at other times. Was this a reasonable expectation

Probably not. It's good advice to look round an area at different times of day and on different days to properly assess it.

As others have said, try going round and talking to them but I don't think you've got any chance of stopping them.

either way a car park doesn't sound to be the savest place to play. .

Our school playground is just a big area of tarmac - no different to a car park.

I was more thinking about the cars entering and leaving rather than the surface...

Outside of church hours, congregation members (presumably because the church is locked) use the grounds as a playground.

I took that bit to mean that the car park wasn't being used as a car park when the children were playing in it.

I envision that this could end spectacularly badly :rotfl:

Rather like when some JWs tried to tap up a friend's methodist minister. They thought they were safe, having ascertained that the branded church minibus was kept by the bloke next door, therefopre he must be the one linked to the church.

    Anyway, they were invited in and taken into the minister's study. Undeterred by the large, full, bookcases they started;

    "It says in the bible......"
"No it doesn't" (minister takes a book off a shelf) "here's exactly what it says."

Ah, but in the Greek text edition (from some century or other) it does."
No it doesn't, " (minister selects another book) "here's that Greek edition, show me where it says that."

"Hmm, well, in the original Hebrew it says..."
"Sorry, " (gets another book down) "here's the Hebrew original text and it says nothing of the sort."

Eventually they twigged that they were onto a loser and took their leave.

    :rotfl:
