    I figured out what was causing it if anyone is interested!

    It was mixidj toolbar - which I downloaded by accident - which is a nightmare to remove (did not disappear even after uninstalling through control panel, it kept appearing in crome even though there didn't seem to be a trace of it on my computer - had to eventually uninstall google crome and it had vanished once I re-installed it)

    Basically - if you are downloading anything make sure you don't accept this nightmare toolbar!!
