Gammon steaks advice please?

lI've used canned soup as a quick base for sauce before. Have you got one that would work as a pasta sauce? or with a jacket or whatever?
Or with beans (and eggs for those who eat eggs).
Or on a roll with salad like a hot sandwich.
Or cook them and use cold in a version of BLT sandwiches for lunch tomorrow.
Ooh I'm liking the idea of cooking them and using them cold for lunch tomorrow...because that way I get out of having them for dinner completely! :rotfl: Apparently I just don't want these gammon steaks for dinner tonight!0 -

Isn't it just stupid?! That is the last time I get seduced by the 'Flash Sale' when checking out my Ocado order0 -
I think I have formulated a plan. I think I will cook the gammon steaks then cut up. I will fry some finely sliced leeks until soft, then add white wine. I will add the cut up gammon along with peas, and stir this through pasta. Maybe some parsley too if I have any.
Does this sound like it would work or will it be horrible?!0 -

Sounds like it should taste nice....but it's got going to be much of a sauce...Maybe just make sure you toss the pasta in some oil or something before adding the rest of the stuff - just to make sure it doesn't end up seeming too "carby"...0 -
Could you make a roux of flour and suitable butter-alternative then add the white wine until it's the right consistency? As Idiophreak says it may not be very saucy otherwise.0

I think I am ok with it not being very saucy
it will be similar to vongole in sauciness/lack thereof and the leeks will soften and add moisture too.
She hopes....!0 -
I'd have sliced some cold potatoes, and saut!ed them in a pan with thinly sliced onions, then when onions soft and spuds crisping I'd have added the gammon cut into slivers
When all cooked, pile on a plate with a green veg and serve with a sweet mustard sauce, made with sugar, white wine vinegar and mustard powder0 -
There is a simple Italian classic pasta & bacon dish, and you could simply use the gammon instead of the bacon. For two, it's 275g of meat, 2 onions and 2 cloves of garlic. Chop and fry in a little olive oil. Toss with some boiled pasta (short tubes, like penne, or shapes). If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

We had cooked and chopped up gammon with pineapple fried rice last week and it was delish!
Start by chopping and stir frying the gammon or use ready cooked ham.
Put some rice on to cook. (which will be ready by the time it takes you to stir fry the rest of the ingredients)
Scramble a couple of eggs and put to one side (you can miss this bit due to your allergies;))
Stir fry some garlic, ginger and chilli. (I always use sesame oil for taste and used ready chopped ginger, garlic and chilli flakes)
Add some chopped spring onions, frozen peas and pineapple. Return the eggs to the pan, add ham/gammon, and about 4 tablespoonfuls of light soy sauce and some chilli sauce to taste. (I'm afraid I'm a bit of a hitty- missy cook and just taste as I go along:o)
The recipe I had mentioned lime juice and serve with wedges, I added a squirt of jif lemon:o:) Maybe your salsa could go in too?
Add the cooked, strained rice and mix well.
I also had some coriander leaves in the freezer so sprinkled some on top. (They defrost really quickly;):))
Quick and easy, except for the rice it was all done in the wok so only one pan used:)
It's gone into the 'you can make that again' file:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
