Gammon steaks advice please?

Options
Hoping for some ideas if possible!

I have two gammon steaks out of the freezer for dinner. They are Waitrose 'just cook' ones and come with a pineapple salsa although OH won't like that (I only bought them as they were vastly reduced!)

I was planning to serve them with potatoes and vegetables.

I SOOOOO don't fancy that tonight!

Has anyone got any suggestions for anything else they can be used for? Maybe something more with pasta or rice, or a sauce, or something. I just don't want a plate with a bit of meat and some potatoes and veg on it. They need to be used today as I got them out of the freezer yesterday morning.

Help?! Thanks! :D

I would cook them - fry each side for a few minutes - then chop them up and use in risotto, stir fry or soup.

mix it with some spuds, and veg (chopped small) pour over cheese sauce. Garnish with grated cheese and sliced tomato and bake in the oven. :T

    OR

Cook some pasta, add some passata (or chopped tomatos), garlic, mushrooms and chopped up gammon (cooked). You could also add some green pepper or courgette if you have some.

    OR

stick with original plan, but make some cheesy parsley sauce to pur over the gammon.

    mmmm hungry now :rotfl:

    Enjoy.

I'd be tempted to cut it into lardons, fry them til a little crispy and chuck them into a carbonara or something like that...

I'd second carbonara or the Hairy Bikers used gammon in their cassoulet recipe and it's lovely.

Thanks for the advice - unfortunately I am allergic to eggs and dairy so creamy/eggy sauces aren't going to work, but I can see why they'd be the immediate ideas!

I was thinking some sort of concoction with pasta and the gammon cut up and leeks and peas and white wine...or something...oh, I don't know! All recipes online are creamy.

I like the idea of them in a tomato sauce with pasta, except that we had bolognaise a couple of days ago so while I may be able to slip two lots of pasta in a week by my OH, I'm not sure he'd stand for two lots of tomatoey pasta!

Maybe I will have to have a rubbish meat and potatoes and veg meal and just deal with it...

Also love their cassoulet recipe but unfortunately don't have any of the other ingredients!

Gammon pasta is a favourite in our house. Chopped gammon, onions, peppers, mushrooms etc fried off and mixed with HM tomato pasta sauce (or jar if in a hurry) and mixed into cooked pasta.

Would also be nice in a special fried rice chopped up small, or cut into strips in a stir fry

Or you could just grill them and serve with egg and chips mmmmm

lI've used canned soup as a quick base for sauce before. Have you got one that would work as a pasta sauce? or with a jacket or whatever?

Or with beans (and eggs for those who eat eggs).

Or on a roll with salad like a hot sandwich.

Or cook them and use cold in a version of BLT sandwiches for lunch tomorrow.

    :)

Hmm, I have a gammon recipe book which you would think would help - nope, not a single pasta recipe in there! Unless you count gammon and artichoke pizza...

Maybe gammon and pasta is just not meant to be! :rotfl:
