Virgin media simplified digital????

Just got of a very long phone call with virgin media, just moved house and we had a broadband package with tivo and 30mb internet for around £30.

In our new area it doesn't have cable which is fair enough (i don't expect virgin to supply cable to every area).

But a couple of things to look out for i thought i would share, we can now only get 0,00mb to 2.4mb internet depending on technical issues i.e how far we are away from the box. so with this and telephone its will cost £30 ok so a pretty bad deal from above. No tivo she wouldn't cancel virgin because they say they can still provide a service so to get out of the account we would have to pay £120 for 5 months.

Then she stated that with virgin every move of address is basically a new contact, i suggested just having virgin until our last 5 months are up then change, apparently it doesn't carry on we are instantly tied into another 18 months contract.

She then stated that i could use virgins partners simplifydigital and they would try and match our old tivo channels. Ok so already being quoted £30 for 2mb internet and phone i asked her to put me through to simplified digital to get a quote from them for the tv aswell.

She then tells me she cant put me through without a account number so i would have to take the £30 deal to get a Quote????

So they could quote me a extra £10 plus for tv bringing the grand totally to £40 or whatever the tv companies quote is.

i declined and i could tell she even found it a bit crazy.

A bit annoyed with virgin can stand companies have little loop holes and gotchas to con you out of money.

A home move is free but always involves a new minimum term. Why would it not given that VM pick up the tab for the move costs?
Virgin National is just a resold BT Wholesale ADSL service.
If you are not out of minimum term then an ETC is payable, as it was your choice to move the service for which you contracted at the old address.

Just rang simplifydigital directly so i think virgin are probably after the commission

The guy was really helpful, basically im a app developer and virgin only offer a adsl line and he said we are literally miles away from the box so im glad he told me that it would be super slow.

Plus net offer the best deal with fibre optic with some great speeds which will cost £33 a month just for the internet.

So with a tv package as well we would need sky which is £21 a month so everything come to £54 which is a lot but at least the guy was just straight with me which was nice and i didn't feel like he was trying to con me into a cheap deal only to realise after install and another 18 months of painfully slow internet.

So looks like im forking out £120 to cancel virgin unless anyone can suggest ways around this???

First - you don't get fibre optic, you get carp ADSL. Virgin are a CABLE company. If you leave their technology behind you get the dross the competition serves up.

Virgin National, as mentioned before, is simply a way to avoid termination charges of an early contract termination - so if you don't take this, you have to add in the cancellation cost as one additional cost of moving.
