I just had the same thing with British Gas HomeCare 200. I paid £12.50 a month with no issues and no call outs. They have now moved the price to £17.50 a 40% increase!!
I called and asked why and they claimed it was a special introductory offer.
I simply said I’m unhappy and with that they moved it down to 14:50 a month.
I had BG Homecare for years and it paid for itself many times over; firstly with an uncharacteristically fault-prone Worcester boiler, then an appalling Ocean boiler (described by one BG engineer as the "Lada of boilers") that we inherited when we moved house, and finally another Worcester that suddenly developed a catastrophic fault (although I think that this fault was within warranty anyhow).
The price was always competitive, the response always good.
However, like most such policies the service deteriorated as the company squeezed the value for money of its product in an effort to satisfy shareholders and the stock market, so eventually we went to Homeserve. The price went up and up until eventually it hit over 30 quid a month with no option to negotiate (although it was available much cheaper online to new customers).
I'm now back with BG Homecare, paying 20 quid a month to cover boiler, controls, heating system, electrical wiring and three kitchen appliances. I reckon that's quite a good deal, but I still expect go through the tedious process of negotiating down the price on each policy anniversary. Its just a fact of life.
