Switching to BT to cut out the middle man

I'm with BT for my phone and Tesco for broadband. I have had it like this since we moved here in 2006. Last year when we went on holiday I turned off my router and ever since we have had trouble with the broadband and hissing on the phone. Every time I ring up BT they say there isn't a fault on the phone so then I have to go to my braodband provider run loads of test then they eventually get BT come out to 'fix' it.
It needs looking at again now but I'm thinking of switching to BT so all my services are with one provider, am I more likely to get it fixed properly if I switch to BT. (plus they have a deal on at the moment and it's £2 a month cheaper)

I take it there are no other LLU operators on your exchange?

Who told you that? You can have any other non-LLU provider you wish, there are dozens to choose from.
If you have noise/crackling on the line) then it's a line fault (nothing to do with your broadband or ISP), and you need to report it to your line rental provider and insist that they fix it. Doing a remote line test will not reveal the fault.
Dial 17070, select option 2, Quiet Line Test-what do you hear?
If you have a fault on the local loop, then switching provider will make no difference-the fault will still be present. BT Retail is completely separate from BT OR, who maintain the network, so having BTR as your provider does not 'cut out any middleman'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've since discovered that if I do a quiet line test there is a constant hiss on the line but if I turn off the router it goes. I'm going to try different filters but I'm not convinced it's going to make any difference. Some times it's so loud it's impossible to hear the person at the other end.Nothing to see here, move along.0
