We don't have co-op travel here, but have 2 TC shops.

There is no need for 2 so close to each other, imo.

I hope my local branch of Thomas Cook stays open. I travel on package holidays three or four times a year and I find them to be much more helpful than the Thomson shop across the street.

I always find the holiday I want on the internet, then go into the shop to book. They price match and I prefer dealing face to face. Also, they then print all the documentation for me. Saves printer ink at home. Very money saving!

Whilst I feel for any staff affected, this has to be a positive step for Thomas Cook. Even today there's still a lot of overlap from the Thomas Cook/MyTravel/Going Places merger, when you add the Co-op merger on top there are sadly far more branches than there need to be.

I saw a stat yesterday about how many branches Thomas Cook have compared to Thomson, it was a lot more. Certainly where I live Thomson were quicker to rationalise branches after the First Choice and other mergers they went through.

Same as "EE" shops that used to be Orange/T-Mobile. I've seen some branches 2 doors apart!

If I decide to book a package I always make an effort to go and book it in-store rather than online, especially if they price match. If everyone else did this as well it would really help them keep some stores open. Otherwise it will just be charity shops, bookies and cash for gold etc.
