GOOD MPG on Car under £2000 Petrol or Diesel?

If the fiesta in that list is the older one thats a bit smaller then thats my choice also.

If its the newer one its getting bigger and heavier where the 1.4TDCI maybe underpowered and actually worse economy than a bigger engine.

Wife had an 03 plate 1.4 TDCI Fiesta around the time sister had a 51 plate 1.5 Clio DCI.
I preferred the Clio.
I thought it looked better, it never needed parts like the Fiesta and the paint didnt fall off it in flakes at the wheel arches/cills.

it realy is one of the best cars i've ever owned. has so far always flew through it's mot despite haveing it's cat removed has a co2 of 0.5 a very efortless engine and perfectly happy at 35mph in 5th gear. i think it's main advantage over it's rivals is the fact that it has a 75bhp bullet proof vag engine and weighs less than a tonne:j

What about 45 minutes of barely moving though, And no dual carriageway to go onto to bring the average speed up.

Its out of the house, A few hundred yards on side roads with a 30 max, But speed bumps, The ones you have to slow down for and change gear.
Then its the main road. Except your not there yet. Its common to be 10 cars+ back waiting to pull out.
Wohoo, The main road a 40mph road. Some hope...
Queued up to the roundabout, Then another roundabout, Then finally the roundabout i need to turn right on and i work there.

If i didnt need to take so much stuff me me it would be quicker to walk.

not a very good daily commute.
if i had to do your journey 5 days a week [and thankfully i dont retired] i think i would be looking to buy a car with start stop technology. i believe the first and probably cheapest 1 being citroen c3 or punto's
or even better buy a pushbike with panniers

Thanks everyone so looks like it will be another fiesta possibly the hdci, the only other cars would possibly be a Ford Focus or a VW polo 03 plate onwards. Or s the Fiesta the top one?
