But on watching the video and watching the effects of "pithing" why is this acceptable to do to sheep/cows/pigs etc but not dogs?

Surely it should be unacceptable to do it to ALL animals not just dogs because they happen to be viewed as pets?

trouble is the bolt guns was designed to stun not kill http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captive_bolt_pistol and this has been lost in common day society for those who wish to euthenise a greyhound thinking that will truely destroy the animal outright, and this perseption is wrong! especially when the method is as how you see it in the pics on the link a bolt to the front of the skull this will do nothing but either paralise the animal or enter it into a comatose state as the cerebra will not have been severed or the spinal chord.

this must stop not just in the UK, but all over the EU even worldwide.

in slaughter houses for pig sheep goat etc the method is humain as it is done by a trained personell then the animal is slaughterted seconds later anyway this doesnt happen with greyhounds its done by someone who thinks they know what they are doing, but actually being nothing but cruel.

i wish greyhounds were prevented from being used as just a racedog breed to make money, they are loving careing affectionate animals, when brought up as a family pet and not an object to run for a fake bunny round a track and thus when retired all it wants to do is chase cats other dogs and are generally not really safe for the family enviroment.

i can remeber when a greyhound had its ears sliced off (to conceal its tag) and set on fire and tied to a pole not so far away from me and was discovered still alive hours later by a passerby! sickening google it and the story should be there makes for horrendous reading.

reading these posts i feel sick, they should use the bolt gun on the people who hurt any animals. if you can hurt helpless animals you must be the cruellest person and would hurt anything or body. i would lock them up and throw away the key.
