Sold a car - buyer drove it off without insurance

Hi

I just sold my car but the buyer drove it off without insurance. I told him numerous times that he should get insurances before driving but he just said its fine and he'll take the risk.
The insurance that I had on the car expired a couple of hours before the buyer collects it and I told the buyer that the car is uninsured.

My question is, is the buyer gets caught who will be responsible? Will I be responsible too? I'm a bit worried about this.

Many thanks

Make sure you have the time of the sale noted with the documents then stop worrying.

    This is not your problem.

Thanks but there is nothing mentioned about time of sale on the V5 document.

Write it on now! Next time write it on the receipt you give the buyer and keep a copy signed by both of you. (Think speed cameras etc)

But don't worry - it's his car and his problem. You aren't responsible to police a buyer to ensure they are legal to drive.

That's right alter after the buyer has signed it, create yourself some further potential problems.

No. Write the time down somewhere now whilst it's still in your memory - doesn't have to be on the V5.

But next time do it on the receipt and have a copy each!

Ok thanks so the fact that my insurance had expired at the time of sale, is not going to cause me trouble?

Provided the car was off the road, no. (And I think that means it has to be SORN declared, not just parked on the drive.)

It's up to the driver of a car that they are insured.
