Using IE9 on Windows 7, the avi and 3 mp4 files played with no problem in Windows Media Player. The audio on the avi file was lower than the others, but that could just be the way it was created.

Using Firefox 19 on Win7, SWF & VP8 ran fine.
Windows Media player opened the others fine by default except FLV which auto-selected to use VLC player and then opened fine.
I couldn't spot any noticeable difference in quality between themas viewed on my 15.6" laptop screen?0 -

All videos played immediately using IE 10Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Running FF19 on Windows 7:
test.avi, test.flv, test_mpeg4.mp4, test_x264.mp4 & test_xvid.mp4 downloaded as files, which opened in VLC
test.swf opened, embedded in Firefox, with the video expanding to fill the window
test.swf.html & test_VP8.webm opened, embedded in Firefox with fixed dimensions0 -

There is a difference between the container format and codec inside it. Mp4,avi, mov, etc are containers, each container can hold differently encoded streams. It is complicated, but no one browser naively plays all formats, all down to licensing and commercial interests.0

Running FF19 on Arch Linux:
test.swf.html & test_VP8.webm opened, embedded in Firefox with fixed dimensions (as with Windows 7)
All other video files opened, expanding to fill the window. The ones that were presented as downloadable files in Windows 7 (and the VP8 one) loaded almost immediately. With the other videos there was a ~4 second delay -- it seemed the video had to be downloaded before it started to play...0
