Ok so apologies if I am stupid....... I converted from pay as you go to a sim only contract and put sim in a Samsung galaxy ace.all fine for first few weeks but now phone does not show a 'service provider' icon on top left of screen and appears to be permanently on 3G.Am I right to be worried about a big bill for data?I don't need the smart phone features and just want calls and texts.Only I got given the phone.
So how do I get it to just be a phone on the normal phone network?
I have searched google to no avail!

The phone will still connect using 3G to make and receive calls. If you have disabled data there won't be any cost.0

But why does it do it? When I go into phone settings itvsays network is disconnected?0

Everything your phone sends and receives is 'data' be it voice calls, texts or internet. So it _needs_ to be connected to the 2G (slow) or 3G (faster) networks to do its job.
You only get charged for the 'internet' data you use - turning that off means there will be no charge.
The phone however will remain connected to 2G or 3G to allow calls / texts to come through.0 -
It might be different for Ace, but for my Desire with original ROM and now with CM 7.2 2g/3g/H/... sign appears in the bar only if mobile data is activated. For all other services it's usual bars (or dB) sign.jbainbridge wrote: »The phone will still connect using 3G to make and receive calls. If you have disabled data there won't be any cost.0
