Samsung Galaxy S2 network lock problem
Options
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on Vodaphone contract.
This morning when I pick up my phone I discover it is on 'Emergency Calls only'. Turning off and on, I get asked for 'Enter Network Lock Control Key' but I don't know what this is.
Phoned Vodaphone and they got me to put the sim in another phone (an old Nokia 6300 non-smartphone) and it is working fine.
I put an old working PAYG sim into the SGS2 and it also is working but if I put the original Vodaphone sim into the SGS2 I still get 'Enter Network Lock Control Key'
I can't figure out what the problem is? Is it the phone or the sim?

The sim, sounds like there is a pin code enabled on the sim card.0

But if I put the sim into another phone, it just works - no questions asked0

I'm thinking if the sim works in another phone no probs then maybe dirty contacts ...giving them clean may help if thats the case.
Have you updated the software at all recently ?
I'd be tempted to call in at a Voda shop and get them to try a few other sims in the phone and if they work then order a replacement sim.
If those sims don't work then maybe a samsung problem and the phone needs to go back.
Did the phone come direct from Vodafone or through a third party ?It's not just about the money0 -
I have had it for nearly 2 years and I got it from Dial-a-Phone. Good idea about the Vodaphone shop0

If it was Dial-a-Phone theres a good chance it was unlocked
I'm more leaning towards a software fault but you need to rule the sim out first so try a vodafone shop and see what happensIt's not just about the money0 -
I have a Voda PAYG sim myself, never been used and it also asks 'Enter Network Lock Control Key'
No recent software updates
Cleaned the sim - no change
I was on the way to the nearest Voda shop, but just getting into the car and thought, they will just tell me someone else has locked the phone and admit they don't understand how.
The phone is well out of warranty so I guess an insurance claim is the way to go - I have accidental cover!0 -

Maybe the easiest will be just to pay for an unlock code at a phone shop ???It's not just about the money0 -
I have been on the phone to Vodaphone today - they don't have a lock on the phone!0

I was assuming that the phone was out of warranty but when I phoned up to find out how much it would cost to buy out the contract, I was advised that it was still within it's 2 year warranty. I have now taken it to a Vodaphone shop and they have sent it away for repair/replacement0
