I was just having a nosey at the Ovivo site, the call deals are not much use to me personally but I didn't realise they also do a Data only SIM, I have a spare 3G USB dongle I can use with my net-book and my Android Tablet would benefit.
This looks irresistible, £15 up front but it goes onto the SIM as credit anyway then 500Mb a month free data, that's plenty enough for occasional use such as on holiday to check email and quite a bit of browsing.
Suppose you use up your 500mb it then starts using your credit up at 16p a megabyte, but it also talks about OVIVO Packs where you can buy another 500mb for £5.... anyone know can you just buy the pack when you need it from your existing £15 credit? presume you would do it via website?
Cheers.

Edit ...looks like you can use the balance to payIt's not just about the money0 -
You are free to spend the £15 credit any way you like on Ovivo - individual calls, buying bundles or when using the phone abroad.
Purely up to you.0 -

Ah thanks missed the FAQ's were under help. Sounds all good then
I can tether to our phones on O2 but in a lot of remote places Vodaphone's coverage is better and Ovivo uses Voda, I would have a 2 way choice then depending on signals0 -
OK, going to ask a really dumb question here... I have an android tablet that isn't 3G, how would I use the Ovivo sim with it? Do you put it in the dongle?
:o:o
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
You could tether it to a phone. I don't know about dongles.
There are two types of Ovivo sim:
The phone sim: 150 minutes, 150texts and 400mb free each month
The tablet sim: 500mb free each month.
NB The tablet sim only has 100mb more than the phone sim. If you tethered your tablet to a phone, you may want to consider the phone sim, so that you can use the minutes and texts on the phone.0 -

Thanks for the info, I'll look into doing that. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
I have a simple 8" Android 4.03 (ICS) Tablet (without 3G), it came with a short cable - one end is mini-USB and goes into the tablet. The other end has a normal size USB socket. This end I plug my Dongle in - the sim card goes in the dongle.
I have one of these dongles, originally it was locked to O2 but I have got it unlocked like you do a phone so it works on any network.
My tablet with standard Android 4.03 had no problem finding the dongle and making a data connection on it. Sometimes people find they have to manually mess with the APN settings on the tablet to work.
I know Android generally seems to work OK with dongles made by Huawei (like this is) which is many of them out there.
The other way is to get a Mifi, you put the SIM in that, it connects to the phone network then relays the connection short range over wifi to the tablet. The Mifi can even be in your pocket.

That's great, thanks for that. Finally just worked out how to tether lol, but not sure if my allowance would cover my needs so the Ovivo would be a great backup. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. I've had the Ovivo data sim since it first came out and actually got it before getting the phone one.
I haven't been able to get a decent speed using it despite trying it in several areas of the country. It was so slow as to be useless. I have the same problem with the non-expiring Vodafone dongle.
However the Samba sim on 3 has worked brilliantly.0
