Flight cancelled easy jet

In 2010 we were sitting by our boarding gate in Palma airport for a flight at about 8pm, suddenly it came up cancelled, (I was 6 months pregnant and was with my husband and 2yr old) we had to go back to baggage reclaim pick up our luggage and queue up at easy jet desk for another flight. No more to Gatwick meant getting midnight flight back to Stanstead.
We were all shattered, in Palma I arranged a taxi to pick us up and after getting home and a few days later I wrote to easy jet asking for the cab fare to be refunded to us £100. They declined!!
They said they only had a duty to get us back to uk?
Can I claim under this law for anything?

Whether compensation is due will depend on the reason for the delays.
EasyJet should have got you back to Gatwick. Did they arrange coaches or similar to transport people from Stansted to Gatwick? if so they could argue that they had made arrangements but you decided to do your own thing instead. How much further (more expensive) was taxi to home rather than to Gatwick?

We were not offered a coach back, our normal taxi fare home would have been £25. At the time what raged us more was the lack of info at Palma airport, no announcements, if I hadn't been checking the board we would have been sitting there longer and prob not been able to get on any flight home that night.
