We're getting worse every day. And now with computers, we overprotect to the point where the PC runs like a dog - JUST to avoid the possibility of something that may never happen! Antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, firewalls and the list goes on and on.

I see your point, but that's with regards to being secure, not what we can and can't do in such a restrictive society. If you pick carefully an AV, Anti-Spyware and firewall solution can be quite light.

Something like Nod32 (or AVG), CounterSpy (costs £10), and Kerio use little resources.

Or you could use Linux :)
I do, I don't run AV (that does make me a little warey though) or Anti-spyware, and it comes with an inbuilt firewall anyway (which you can control through a GUI if you wish).

The most annoying one for me was the re-naming of the Fat Controller in Thomas The Tank Engine, who was a legend.

Because it wasn't PC they changed him to Mr Top Hat, which takes so much away from the character.

    Sad days.

LMAO! Ahhh thats a good one! I didn't know they had changed that. I shall forever know him as the fat controller despite what they say!

At least they didn't change him to 'the glandularly challenged controller' or 'the result of a fastfood nation controller'

    :p

No joke though - our boy and the rest of the kids at his school are actively told off for using the name "blackboard"! I couldn't believe that...

Re the malware point, the first thing a good piece of malware will do nowadays is kill the resident AV and firewall and then block attempts to go to AV websites and windowsupdate etc. Of course they don't all do that, but the time will come.

What is a whiteboard called nowadays?

PS I do use a software firewall as well..:D

I have just bought a Dell desktop which includes a Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000 Graphics Card and my monitor keeps flickering on and off. Dell tech support tell me the graphics card doesn't support Vista! How can they sell this to me??????

Maybe they just didn't know the answer.

I'd check the Dell website to see if there are any newer drivers available.
