  • Thank you for all the replies, much appreciated. I think the general consensus is that flat sharing would be the better option to leave me with any sort of social life. Looks like I'll have to stay put for a little while and keep saving until I find someone to move in with.

There are a few well-known websites for flat shares / spare room ads etc so you don't necessarily have to find someone you know to move in with. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the links but I can pm you if you need them.

As someone said above you're unlikely to get a pay rise, and the cost of living is going up dramatically! Why not try a house/flat share, where you're monthly rent covers all bills. Or stay at home longer and save some serious dosh!

Also, you pay 6 months in advance for your TV licence so it's actually double for 6 months then goes down. I know it's not a massive amount but you should know!

I'd get rid of the gym membership (£30pm) and look to cut down the mobile bill (£33pm) - mine's a tenner a month! £50 odd quid a month on top of your £160 = £210 for extras - easily doable.

Also a double goodie as you stated your work is within walking distance - keeps you fit (no need for gym), and less car expenses :-)

Why are you rejecting renting a room in a shared house? It'll give you your independence and you'll get a much better idea of how you do spend your money if you want to look at a place on your own in the future. You might even find that special someone sooner if you don't have to introduce them to your mum on your first date!
