I've been told my phone has been reported stolen! How come?!

Alright!

I have a problem that I'm looking for a bit of advice!

Over the past few months I have had lots of issues with Vodafone and in particular the BlackBerry 9900 they provided me. It got to the point that I would send it away to get fixed and they would replace it instead of fixing it!

The most recent time this happened was in October last year when as per usual instead of fixing my phone they sent me a BlackBerry 9900 that I was under the impression was a refurbished phone. Then in january the phone stopped working, the keypad wouldn't work and to end a call I had to take off the back and take out the battery! Not very handy!

They offered me a compromise. They offered me the choice of an older Blackberry phone that was brand new, the only condictions were that it was an older model and that my contract weas extended by three months. I just wanted a phone that works and I need something with a Qwerty keypad so this suited me.

I was told the phone would be delivered within 3-5 workign days. On the sixth day it hadn't been sent so I complained and they tld me it was on it's way within another three to five working days. Again, six workign days after this it hadn't turned up so I told them to cancel this request and just try and fix my phone. They were arranging sending out a box to send my faulty phone back when the phone they promosied to send but didn't suddenly turned up!

So I had an older model that's working so it's an imporvemnet. I decided since Codafone made no claim for the faulty phone to send it to Mazuma clearing stating that it's a faulty phone but deciding I'd at least get something for it.

I sent it to them, got an email to say that it was received and then I got an email a day later. Apparently the phone was reported as stolen on a database they use and it was referred to a compnay called CheckMend who would get back to me. I registered with them and straight away i got an email saying that the phone phone had been reported as stolen on the T-Mobile network on 22nd September and an insurance claim had been made on it!

I then went back to Vodafone who have since claimed the IMEI number of my previous phone that i currently have is different from the one I submitted to Mazuma but I know that it's not correct!

Basically Vodafone sent me a phone in October that was a refurbished one. If what I'm being led to beleive that same phone was reported as being stolen on another network just weeks before I ended up with it. I'm not worried about the little money I was going to get from Mazuma but I'm worried that I had a stolen phone and that a company now think that I was trying to sell this and that Vodafone are denying they ever gave me it in the first place!

Does anyone know if there is any way I can confirm exaclty if the IMEI number I have is the one that came from Vodafone? I wasn't sure if I could trace this. As you can tell I've had a lot of bad issues from Vodafone and this is makign it worse! Power to you? Not to me!

Thanks!

I was going to say if you still have the box, it is sometimes on there (the IMEI) but somewhere in your post you say the handset has been replaced :(

voda have their firmware on it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

My head hurts too..so Vodafone didn't ask for the faulty phone back...you didn't want the old phone and sent it to Mazuma. Mazuma says it's stolen so it gets returned to it's rightful owner...but you want what exactly? Vodafone has already replaced the phone they won't do it again.

Impossible if you are dealing directly with the networks. Refurb phones from both from T-Mobile and Vodafone come from their own sorting offices. There is only 3 explanations I can think of:

    1) Mazuma have mixed 2 phones up.

    2) Someone has taken out a contract for a new shiny phone, nicked the same model of phone from a random and sent this model back to Vodafone as means to terminate the 24 month contract within their cooling off period whilst keeping their phone... This however seems very unlikely as the IMEI would have flagged to them as soon as they received the phone.

    3) Checkmend have the IMEI of the stolen handset wrong.
