If they tried this stunt in France, they would be bankrupt in a week.
In Britain we are a divided nation all sat pointing at each other chimping off about each other.
    Divided we will be conquered.
If only we could stick together and boycott those who want to put our Children on the scrap heap and give those that support them by calling our own people lazy a smack in the mouth.
    Be happy...;)

Absolutely. You'd get people queueing up to work there!

However, the cost of the holidays would have to increase, making the parks more expensive than flying overseas, so fewer visitors, so parks close down, so all those £30k earners would be back on the dole. If you can see a way around this fundamental problem then there are economists the world over very keen to hear how, in fact!!

I'm not saying I've got the solution, I'm highlighting the problem:

The butlins wage is !!!! in terms of UK living wage, but great for eastern europeans, and so the perception amongst the EEs is that it's a good job worth doing with a great reward for doing it, vs attracting desperate english people who barely see it as worth their time.

People like to bash the english staff as being poor compared to the EEs, but we're not... it's just that very few people will work hard for peanuts, and the jobs that EEs take DO pay peanuts if youre trying to actually live here. If you're just here to make money then move back somewhere cheap, then it pays loads.

Actually, it's not that bad TBH - minimum wage and higher with highly subsidised food and accommodation.

Then they also do invest in staff - the training level id much higher than some industries, and there are complete career paths for those who want them. It's entirely possible to start collecting glasses and work your way upto park manager - people do it all the time. Yes, a park manager earns significantly over £30k, no glass collectors don't, but the ASDA checkouts don't either. It's actually not the duff deal you think it is, working the parks.
