Yes not good news, but at the same time how many Brits are prepared to leave their families behind and move thousands of miles to work for minimum wage in a different country? Not many is my guess. Got to admire our Eastern European friends' willingness.
The UK workforce needs to become more competitive!
I love this quote from the article linked to:Job Bank, based in Brasov, Romania, claimed to one of our team: “British employers prefer Poles and Romanians because British workers have a drink problem and are lazy. They are unreliable because they don’t want to work.”The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

They recruit overseas for good reason - most of the Brits they recruit are unreliable, they see it as one long jolly and don't turn in for work half the time. The Eastern Europeans on the other hand will work their backsides off.
I would dispute that they do not recruit in the UK though - the Butlins Jobs websites currently has many vacancies for Skegness.0 -

Though don't forget that "minimum wage" wile barely enough to live on in England is a decent wage in those countries because it's so cheap to live there.
If English people were offered say, 30K to do these jobs, you can bet that it'd attract a high caliber of staff.
The british job market isn't competitive, because our cost of living is so stupidly high that some jobs just aren't worth the money. It isn't that british workers are lazier or worse than in other countries -- I've seen plenty of lazy eastern europeans with drink problems. A building site next to where I used to work was full of them... but if the job is a bit crap and the pay is worse, in real terms to a worker, they won't work as hard as they would if the pay is decent.
It just so happens that an eastern european, they can afford to live like a king on a wage that, to us, would barely leave us better off than the dole.0 -

The cost of living argument is not applicable here because accommodation and board is provided at a very low rate, and if you know the right people, it can be very comfortable too0 -
Luckily we are not on mainland Europe because the problem would be even bigger. Google Otto Laarbruch and see how they do it there. Ex RAF camp right on the Dutch border in Germany, so came complete with all facilities, turned into a workers camp to supply Polish workers to most major cities in Holland, Belgium and Germany within a couple of hours travel. They can even provide houses for families.0

It is not the Eastern Europeans that are causing the problem here though - they are the solution.0 -

Absolutely. You'd get people queueing up to work there!
However, the cost of the holidays would have to increase, making the parks more expensive than flying overseas, so fewer visitors, so parks close down, so all those £30k earners would be back on the dole. If you can see a way around this fundamental problem then there are economists the world over very keen to hear how, in fact!!0 -

They're like the Hilton compared to Britannia Hotels' Pontins.0
