I now believe that I am also owed at least 1 weeks holiday pay from 3, if not the full 5, months of my employment.

You can use this calculator to work out how much leave you are owed

I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

So I've got my jsa interview in a while and I'm still not sure wherever to mention that I had resigned (just before being sacked) or not....

Of course the employer could well mention it when contacted but I also think that if I say it, they will use it to not award me jsa

Personally, I wouldn't but I'd explain what happened.

Which is....You called in sick and the employer terminated your contract of employment. Within the first year an employer can terminate for no reason. I wouldn't elaborate too much.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Yep I think I will thanks :-)

Just a warning.... don't expect money from your council anytime soon though, it can take much longer then expected. when i applied it took 2 months just to get any payment from them, it's only supposed to take 14 days according to the goverment website lol

Many thanks I have contacted them regarding this and am pretty confident :-)

Does anyone know if I could claim housing benefit as well?
I'm renting a flat for the next 4 months but have only 2000 in the bank

You can claim housing benefit even when working if you earn under a certain amount.
You can definitely claim it if you are claiming for JSA.

Just don't be suprised to see it may not cover your rent
  • My husband was 'sacked' after 23months in a job simply because the old guy (friend of boss/owner) wanted his job back. They tried to be clever about it, but basically he was sacked illegially, and prior to that was pressured to get things wrong, quit his job etc.
I say this because it doesn't sound like your ex-bosses have been very professional, and if you keep their email about threatening references, you can persist in your requests for holiday and notice pay, and show that to new employers if they actually go through with it.#
Have you got contents cover with legal advise n your flat? We discovered that little line, legal advice cover, turns into a full services of an employment solicitor. That's what we did, and she managed to get the ex-boss to pay us the pay he should have had, compensation for tangible benefits (company car phone etc) and for intangible benefits - just inside 2 year mark so sick pay, holiday entitlement and paternity leave as I was 5 months pregant at the time and he couldn't get paternity leave in temp work that he would have had in old one. He claimed JSA and everything, got £3.30 a week off council tax per week eventually - but it's the status of being on JSA that helped with debts and bills, not the actual cash.
I really hope you have the lega cover, I know it's extra but I wouldn't go wthout it now. Your union would help too, if you joined that is... :-)
