What in your house has a 5 amp fuse?

My shredder's just stopped working. It might have plain just broken, but I want to try a new fuse.
Unfortunately, it's a 5 amp fuse. I have lots of 3 and 13 amp fuses, but no 5amp! I want to cannibalise a fuse from another appliance, but the ones I've looked at have the wrong one.
Can you think of what has 5amps in your house?

5A fuses are relatively rare. Are you sure that 5A is what is required - as opposed to what you actually found fitted?
This is not advice - just what I might do - I would try a 13A fuse to establish whether or not it was the fuse. If 13A worked, I would double check the actual fuse required and if it was 5A, I would buy some on Monday. I would not continue to use the shredder with a 13A fuse unless this was specified as correct. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
As a rough guide they say if it's 700 watts or under then use a 3A. Over 700 watt use 13A.
5A are only found in older things and have been phased out.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

It's less than a month old, and from LIDL.0

5A are still used and 10A are becoming a bit more common.
Do not put a bigger fuse in than an appliance was originally fitted with, as it can lead to overheating and possibly a fire for certain faults on the appliance.
Plenty of places open on a Sunday to get fuses or leave it until tomorrow0 -
Have a look at eBay 5 amp fuses under £2 for 10 Post Free :beer:There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0

Have you got any small kitchen appliances like a hand held beater or electric carving knife?
Not saying they will be 5 amp but my OH reckons that it will be small appliances like this that might have a 5 amp fuse.
Good luck!
To be honest, I suspect your shredder is broken! Hope it's under guarantee!0 -
I found one the last week! It was the fuse in my Cooker hood (internal, with light) but then it had candle bulbs in and when one of those popped, it took out the fuse. Replaced with another 5a fuse, but proper cooker hood bulbs this time.
Home bargains, like 79p for 8, 3 x3A, 3x13A, and 2 5A.0 -

I know scarily little about electrics but the husband is sitting right next to me and he knows stuff :-)
If you can't find anything with a 5 amp then look for something that uses a 3 amp. A desk lamp would be ideal as it draws so little power.
Put your suspect 5 amp into that. If it works then your fuse is good, if it doesn't then your shredder is dead. Once you've tested replace the 3 amp, obviously.
Best of luck,

I got my shredder from Lidl, only bought the main top bit (not the bin), it's a 'united office'.
I've just checked it now and it's only a 3A fuse. Looks like they may have put the wrong one in by mistake.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Thank you all. You offer many of the benefits of a helpful family, without disadvantages like having to compete with you for the tv remote.0
